Presa breeders that dont charge $2,500 +

Do they exists?

lol Ive researched a lot of breeders over the years and even with some of the more rare breeds your able to find honest breeders who don't charge a small car payment, but with Presa I have seen some of the most ridiculous prices Ive even seen a breeder who charge's $3,500 (minus shipping) for a pup,( they are very impressive dogs though)

so my questions are, do presa breeders exist who charge sub $2,000 for a pup? if so point me in the right direction please and why do presa cost so much are they still considered a rare breed? or am i missing something?

yeah I saw that too in my search at first. I saw a lot who were selling show dogs and champions but I have no intention on showing my dog. I had to find someone who was offering a great breeding but I still paid $1600 for a purebred. I think there are many who don't exactly have pure bred lines that I have seen at the lower end of cost range. So you do get what you pay for to some extent. Just keep looking online and you can get a great presa for under $2000 still. But when looking at the big kennels and the "famous" ones that's what your gonna pay. Keep looking. Get references. Take a visit. You will be successful. Good luck.

If you look into all the details it takes to breed a well-bred dog... it's expensive.

Lots of health considerations and risks with the breeding bitch, specifically (c-section may be needed, etc)... and the pups, too... lots of time and effort to bring them up right, especially if the mom doesn't know what to do and/or doesn't have milk ready for them.

And, when you consider the life-long costs of owning a dog (let alone a mastiff)... that extra $1-2k is chump change over the life of that dog.

Just my $0.02 on the issue, anyway...

There are lots of mutts available for less at the local pound, and they make great pets, too.

Personally I don't believe in paying more than 1k for a pup unless you intend to show it or if it's a rare breed.
I've yet to see a pup especially a Lab or Golden that has cost over 1k free of hip dysplasia or allergies who supposedly had champion bloodlines in them.
And even the seemingly reputable breeders aren't always honest!

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for, reason is I have had 2 EMs in my possession in 11 years. My first EM was a $500 flea market puppy. She was diagnosed with HD at 9 months, had terrible arthritis by the time she reached her senior years, was incontinent & was overall not what I would've considered "quality". She was the sweetest dog ever, it's just the people that bred her parents were purposely breeding unhealthy dogs for a profit. My 2nd EM was $500 & the runt of her litter. She is by far way smaller than the EM standard. But thankfully *knocking on wood* she's been fairly healthy in her almost 2 years of life. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't expect to pay less than $1000 for a quality mastiff puppy. Of any breed. There's certain breeds of dogs that you have to take into consideration that costs that the breeder takes on when breeding their dogs. Health testing, showing, training, emergency care, vaccinating & worming 8+ puppies. So while $2500 per pup may seem like a lot, there actually may not be very much profit to the breeder when you look at the big picture.

The breeder that tests for health and temperament, shows in confirmation, is selective in their breeding and has a couple of litters a year doesn't make any money at $2,000 - $2,500 per pup.

It's the breeder that doesn't do any of the above and just breeds whatever's in his backyard or conveniently close that makes money.

My dog was free, due to accidental breeding. I think unless you are showing or breeding or really care that much, its a waste. But its whatever. I wouldnt turn my husband away because he has a bad back. Breeders can lie, and free dogs can end up being the best dog. Its a dog, why are getting it iguess would be the key to your answer. Puppies usually stay with mom for 6-10 weeks. That means puppy food cost, cleaning up after them, space. Just for a normal dog. Plus!!! Presa canarios have bad rep. I think its smart to make them expensive so that dog fighters are less Likely to get them. Its a breeder responsibility.

I also think you get what you pay for. For small to medium size dogs it might not matter as much if the parents have been health checked. But with large breeds, when HD, which is mostly genetic, is a very real possibility, I don't want to take any chances. You could buy a $500 puppy, and then spend $10000 on surgeries and medication or have put down the dog at 4 years old because you cannot afford its medication. A reputable breeder provides health guarantees and stands behind every puppy.
