Moulting

Tessa is looking 'ratty' both from the food induced shed, the new stuff growing in, & all of the crap that has been on/in her fur--because she loves to roll in everything...and while I can pull or brush it from her fur, it still leaves her coat looking dullish. I cannot wait to give her a bath, just haven't had the time.

What has surprised me the MOST--despite the fact of no bath for months now--is no doggie smell--not on her, not in my house.
I've never had a pooch that wasn't kinda stinky like dog by this time of the winter. Only thing I get the slightest bit of scent from is her ears--& I mean inside of her ears--if I stick my nose all the way in there & smell--I can barely make out the smell of ear wax--This is how I check her ears, by smell.

I know you all have said these pooches do not get doggie odor, but I thought that was just an exaggeration--plus Tessa isn't pure bred--
But she is of the scentless variety despite being a mutant :)

Isn't it awesome?

BTW, for anyone who's using the Ice on Ice, I poured mine into a small spray bottle and its SO MUCH easier to use than with the stupid pump they insist on using on this kind of bottle.

Bathing them helps to shed out quickly, warm water especially. The best comb I have found is a horse rake that I got at 3 Cs. It's a T rake, that looks like a comb with a rake handle. It works very well and has nice long teeth.

Cals worse this year then last year! Looks like he will need another bath in a month or so, on the plus side I thought he was moth eaten till I saw a woman walking her chow, looked like she hadn't even touched his coat, the poor bugger.

Apollo got his pre-show bath on Wednesday, and today his legs and shoulders are shedding little clumps of fur. Guess we're in for it finally!

I think I'll take her to the groomer. D'Argo has enough vaccinations to go too now.

I'm sure he'll come back looking like a little puff ball.

The back seat of my Subaru looks like someone killed a muppet.

For the love of god--it doesn't even look like real fur!!!

it looks like fun fur.

I'm so so skrewed--

I still don't know if my muppet is gonna shed/moult like a TM or like a golden retriever--But it's game on.
I just PRAY it's like a TM-because retrievers shed year round non stop.

Aside from the food change mini shed that occurred--which I NOW KNOW was NOTHING compared to this,
I've had more than a year of basically no fur...my cats shed more than Tessa-You'd not even know I had a dog her size with long fur...but that all has changed.

I'm not gonna know til I go all the way through 2014...
But all of the retriever owners I spoke to said their pooches began shedding around 6-7 months & never stopped.
So I am hoping for a miracle.

Ok, I take it back.

His front legs are almost bare. His back legs are getting there. But nothing else has even STARTED to come loose! Poor dog, it was mid-70's today, going to be over 80 tomorrow!

Poor boy!
Zeus is in full shed all over. Hades is sort of moulting but he's still got more of a puppy fur coat than the longer top coat that Zeus has. Not sure if that's just how his coat will be or if he's a "late starter". :)

I think it's time for some new pictures of Hades. :)

Yes, he still looks puppy-fluffy. Athena is almost 16 months and she still has puppy fluff on her sides. I think she'll finally get all of her adult fur after this season. She's going to the groomer today. I hope they get most of her fluff out.

Hades is really cute. Do you think he'll stay all gold like that or will he get some sable?

It snowed here today :( 5cm. I have never seen it snow this late in spring...one weird off day the first week of April past years sure but the 15th? It was 20C yesterday and -1C today with snow. My pup has no winter coat left really but the snow will probably stay only for a day and it suppose to be near 20C again by the weekend. Poor animals are all confused (birds, mice etc)

Zeus pretty much had his adult coat by the time he was 1 so I wasn't sure with Hades. Hades has a bit of sable over his shoulders and his back just before his tail but I think the rest will be about how his colour will be.

Ruthcatrin/Doggyhelpplease.....we've had some late April snow in previous years but hoping not this time. Weird that it can have been so warm the day before though!
