Hair Shedding

We are dealing with warmer temps here in Germany this winter. I've noticed that Logan has been shedding like crazy over the past 2-3 weeks...is this normal when it feels like spring is on its way in? I mean do they normally start shedding at the on-set of spring? His coat is nice and smooth...no spots or patches of damaged hair. He doesn't chew or scratch, but every time we brush him (daily) so much hair comes out, it's crazy. I'm guessing this is his under coat coming off...not sure since this is our first CC. When does a CC normally shed?

My EM shed like crazy at that age. I think it was a combination of the changing season and losing his puppy coat.

Good info...I didn't know that they had a puppy coat to shed...as well as normal seasonal shedding.

It was a bit of a surprise to me too. I found his coat wasn't quite as soft as it was before but still far softer than he looks like he should be.

I was wondering about this too. Ajax has been shedding a lot lately as well. I have been trying to get some answers from the vet, who is not sure either. He is almost 7 months. I was concerned that it might be his food or a symptom of something. I guess I am paranoid.:scared2: Thanks for the reassurance.

Same situation with our almost 7-month old Brooklyn. No matter how much we use the Furminator for or how much we vacuum, there is a ton of hair coming out of her. She has been on fish oil for almost 2 months without much help. I am hoping that it is indeed shedding of the puppy hair. We used to have a basset hound and he shed constantly, so we are somewhat used to it, but having had terriers for the last 10 years, we got used not having to vacuum twice a day. Oh well, I guess we will have to wait and see

Daily it looks like a troupe of dust bunnies ran through my house leaving telltale markers throughout the house. Sophie is 9 months, and we are in Callifornia, where in the past month it has been 40's and alternately 80's. Does that help?

Could be a combination of he's blowing the rest of his puppy coat &/or he's shedding his winter coat. Dogs will get "fluffier" in the winter & tend to shed their thicker coats out as warmer temps come in. I'd recommend bathing & using some sort of force dryer to blow out the dead hair & a good brushing. Maybe with a zoom groom or rubber type brush.

Denna's finally starting to shed... she never really has to this point, and she's almost 2 years old.

I think the longer days is what cues the shedding to start - our cat, who finally stopped shedding about 2 months ago, has also started shedding again. She's a total hairball. ;)

We still get less hair off the 150lb dog than the 12lb cat. But Denna's working on evening the score, this year.
