Calling all inactive puppy owners.........

Because of the pretty extreme cold weather out there these days and most days being below 20 celcius....I am curious to know what you all are doing to keep your furbabies from not getting bored around the house?? For me, when it is really really cold out, I let them go crazy in the basement and play "red bone"..its a game that Milton (my boston) and Kazmaier (my Neo) play with a red kong bone....Milton will take it and run around the basement and Kaz will try to get it from him. Once he catches Milton, they play tug o war with the bone and Milton can actually put up a really good fight..They tire themselves out pretty good with this game plus it saves my upstairs from getting destroyed from them playing zoomies. When it's not so cold out, I bundle up like the michelin man and head outside for a walk however, I have to leave Milton at home because he can not handle the cold weather..poor baby...With Kaz, the weather does not phase him at all!

It was cold here in Va not so much anymore but lots of rain now. But to keep my puppy going she has a red ball that squeeks when she bites on it. Now i never taught her about fetching and bringing back but I throw her ball down the hallway she breaks out in a sprint to retrieve it and she always brings it back to me and puts it down right in front of me. Smart girl, as long as I throw it she runs and brings it back. After a while she will be huffing and puffing. And I stop to give her a rest carefull not to over exert her. She loves it.

When is is really cold 10 degrees or colder i only allow her outside for a few mins at a time. (which she does NOT appreciate) I let my 3 boys wear her out.

She loves the cold so when it is 20 or so out there I let her in the backyard(it's fenced) to play for about 15 mins or so at a time. Then she comes in with her face covered with snow lol

Mine is a TM, so I bundle up and we still walk even at -35C (that was the worst day I think). It is only -8C today and it snowed 25cm so its a great day for play she thinks! I always check her paws etc, and we might not go as long when lower than -20 or if windchill etc. We also play in the backyard with her or have a friend's dog over. None of their dogs can spend as much time as her outside so when they gotta go in so does she. Inside we play find it, hide and seek or training, some tug and some TM style fetch. She is much more activate now than then summer.

Both of my guys LOVE the cold and snow. They will play outside for over an hour when it's zero out if I let them!

Right now it's about -30 celcius with the wind chill so we are not going out for walks. Last night we had our volunteer work at the hospital which I was thankful for to get Jake out of the house and visiting. I will take him with me whenever possible to go to a pet store or a family member's house. When we don't go out he plays with the cat or chews on one of his cow hooves.

Topaz and Blue seem to keep each other happy in the play area. I had back surgery in December, so Topaz hasn't been walked since last summer and I'm still not allowed to walk her yet. I assumed she would be absolutely bonkers, but she doesn't seem to care. They'll run into the backyard and play fight all the time. And the squirrels keep them busy too. ;)
I think they both have adapted to a life of hibernation in winter. There's no way I'm going out there. ;)

My guys love the winter so staying indoors is not an option, but we do take shorter walks when it's crazy cold out. We also play in the backyard multiple times throughout the day. When we are housebound, I feed them their meals in puzzle toys, we practice our obedience skills and for fun we play Find it (hide pieces of cheese throughout the house and make 'em sniff 'em out) or we play Hide and Go Seek.

We also have plenty of lasting chews as an evening treat. :)

Thor loves the winter it seems. He'll just sit on the snow or ice and stare at nothing for 5 minutes straight!
I cringe when I see him just sitting and daydreaming on a sheet of ice in the backyard at -20 Celsius!

Damn my freezer isnt even as cold as some of ya'lls weather lol.
I'm pretty inactive myself due to back issues so my girls do a lot of tug of war and house fetch and chase the dog with the toy.

-27 this morning for us and my 7 month old BM will just stay out long enough to potty then runs back towards the door.

Only thing I can do is play indoor fetch, tug of war and the occasional wrestling....I know bad me on that last part.

-12 here this morning! I literally have to push Topaz out the door. But I can't blame her. Their feet freeze pretty quick in this. But Blue decided to chase Topaz around the house (they can do a circle through the rooms on our main level) early this morning so they got their energy out. ;) All I have to do is walk slowly towards them with my hands up like claws and it sets them off in a playful mood. Then they finish it off while I make my coffee.

That's the high end that we've been having lately so the boys haven't been going out much. They certainly have cabin fever and we've reached a point where distraction isn't working. It might have something to do with the fact that both have been sick but Kryten in particular has WAY TOO MUCH pent up energy.
