Why bother with so many breeds? Just quote the entire AKC breed list and it will include all. You can never be too safe..;)

Ha I have a Giant Schnauzer and she is soooo much more a bite risk than my Boxers were (they were one of the original schutzhund breeds, def aggressive)...

As a landlord this list is great. As a homeowner with Fila's not so great.

A couple of tidbits I pulled from this article. http://www.bankrate.com/finance/insurance/homeowners-insurance-bites-dogs-that-bite-1.aspx

*
* The Journal of Applied Animal Behavior has reported that dachshunds, Chihuahuas and Jack Russell terriers are the most likely to bite. Another study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for the Interaction of Animals and Society put Labradors and golden retrievers in the high-risk cat.

The next two really shocked me:

Dog bites account for 1/3 of all homeowner claims

88% of fatal dog attacks in 2010 were by unaltered dogs.

I might get flamed for this but people need to take dog ownership more seriously. Honestly, some of the stuff I read on this board makes my jaw drop. We listen to the local police scanner and there are always at least one aggressive dog call and more like 3 or 4 each time we listen. We are only talking about 2 or 3 hours at a time.

uUUUUMMM That looks like every breed of dog known to man on there except for all the little rat dogs....

Which the little rat dogs should probably be the ones taking the top spots on that list.

But yeah, EMs are totally agressive. They will kill you with their acidic drool and smother you to death thinking they're a lap dog. Vicious beasts these are.

The US 2010 fatal dog attack stats: http://www.nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/uploaded_files/tinymce/2010%20DBRF%20Report_Final_7.pdf

Its actually more like 87% of dog bite fatalities are caused by intact dogs in 2010. BUT 2/3 of those same attacks are by "resident dogs" which means that little to no work was done to socialize and care for the dogs. Of the attacks that involved "family dogs" the person attacked was frequently not well known by the dog and in many cases there were reports of previous problems with the dog. And in only very very few cases was the actual breed of the dog really known. You also have to keep in mind that dispite all the media attention given, there was only 33 fatalities caused by dogs in 2010......

BITES are harder to quantify, cause as many of us know even a scratch by claws, or a puppy nip, can be so classified. And that doesn't take into account injuries that were blatently NOT caused by a dog, but are blamed on one. Theres a case pending (I forget where, I'll find the link in the morning) of a child with a supposed "dog bite" on her abdomen. Now I donno what really caused the injury, but theres no way its a dog bite, not from the pictures given to the media....

I can simplify the list...

Potentially aggressive dog breeds:

1. Any pure breed.
2. Any mix/cross/hybrid/mutt.

THIS. Times infinity, THIS. I mean, I have a Fila, and I think most of my friends are more afraid that I'LL bite than he will.

Given my friends and my personality...er...they may not be wrong... I'm nippy.

I believe this list is subjective and would take it with a grain of salt. That list has too many breeds on that list. Any pup can be aggressive, it depends on the owner. In line with stupidity of most, this list has a number of breeds that makes you scratch your head and say, WTF. They didn't list chihuahua and I've seen a number of aggressive chi's. Again, aggressive pup depends mostly on the owner.

These kind of lists piss me off...

Oh, I guess I'm safe. I own Bullmastiffs, which are not on the list. Bull Mastiffs are, but not Bullmastiffs. Whew!

Anyway, here's the article I mentioned: Family dog to be killed for child the family's facebook page says the kid fell, and although it'd have to be a pretty nasty fall I can totally believe a fall could produce that. It sure doesn't look like any dog-bite injury I've ever seen....

Well, that list is ridiculous. When I worked at the shelter, the tiny dogs were way more unstable and nippy than the big dogs. It was more of the lab/shepherd mixes that were bity. I got bit once, not terribly and didn't even bleed, by a white German Shepherd, in the whole 8 months I worked there. But, I was also very cautious and aware of each dog. I left aggressive dogs alone. I have a thought about the list. It seems that most of the dogs on this list are either "spitz types," "bully types," or large/giant breeds. Even Boston Terrier and Pug are smooshed face "bully" dogs. Looks like a list made out of prejudice, not research, to me. Dalmatians aren't even on that list...

They didn't have any kind of Pointer on there, either, and they're kind of sketchy. Looks like a list made out of "pull something out of my butt", more like.

I think Labs have more bites than most dogs. Maybe because they are a popular breed? I don't see cocker spaniel on there. Those are some bitey MFers!
