Hi all my female is just coming out of her heat, (im assuming since it has been 3 weeks and she has stopped bleeding) and through the whole heat my male hasnt bothered with her. Now that she has stopped bleeding he is trying to mount her every few seconds. She wants nothing to do with him as she is always sitting when he trys to mount her. Why is he acting like this?.........I know she is not standing for him and keeps biting his face and legs and just tries to get away from him. I have gotten to the point where i crate her just so he will leave her alone. and then he just stands or lays infront of the cage waiting to get at her.........will this stop soon or why is this?............(totally confused)

It sounds like she is ready to breed or he thinks she is. They do stop spotting when they are ready. Since she is not willing, she may be out far enough and he might be confused. I'd just watch her close for a few more days.

How long had she been in heat? Dogs are usually ready to breed around day 9 after the first time you spotted blood. If it is over 3 weeks, try giving her a bath and really scrub that area. That should help. Correct him whenever he goes to bother her. If she was receptive, she would red flag him. Put her butt up to him and move her tail out to the sidelines flag.

Ok great thank you northern. It has been 3 weeks and she keeps running from him. But he is being persistant. So even though she is still swollen I can give her a bath?

ok well i gave her a bath, and he isnt as bad as what he was during the day but he is still going after her...........wow forgot how frustrating this can be.........lol..............but at least she is clean now and smells better........lol............thanks for all the help. I wasnt sure if i miscalculated or not........but no i looked at the calendar and it was 3 weeks exactly this past thursday. It was her first heat, so that is why i was concerned. She is only gonna be 8 months on the 15th of this month
