Weight and food question

Hi y’all I’m new to this forum and I a wanted to pick some brains about my puppies weight and food situation. I currently have an 11 week old male Boerboel named Thanos he weighs 31.8 pounds he just turned 11 weeks a day ago. I have been feeding him orijen large breed puppy and at first he couldn’t hold his food down I was thinking he was eating to fast or over eating so I slowed down his portions into mini meals and added some wet topper . His breeder was feeding him pedigree so I was thinking maybe the drastic change was taking a toll but he’s been doing okay holding it down now . Has anyone else had any similar problems with orijen ? Also a site I was on said he was underweight for his age should I be concerned . We had a Boerboel before who passed away he was with me for 11 years and has been gone for two 😢 so it’s been awhile since my new puppy days I just want to make sure he’s in the best possible health and weight range . Should I be concerned ? Thank you I’m advance for any advice .

Hello and welcome to the forum. You have a good looking little boy and he looks just fine as he isnt skinny but just right and better than chubby. His genetics will do what they are supposed to do and he will grow just fine dont worry. I have a female boerboel now but also had a male who i lost at only 3 years old due to heart failure 😔 so yeah i know that storry, at least your lived 11 years and you had many happy times with him. Keep up with updates and a lot of pictures

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the response and feedback! I just am always concerned with him being healthy being so young and all so I really appreciate the feedback . So sorry for your loss 3 years I know you were heartbroken that was so soon. I will definitely keep you updated and lots of pics I am so excited to see him go through all his little stages and changes .

Agree with the others, he looks great as-is ... don't over feed him!

Orijen is a high-quality food but it is also pretty rich which some dogs can take time to adjust to, and for puppies with developing digestive systems and gut flora it can be a lot at first. I think you did the right thing making meals into smaller portions and adding water. Sounds like he has been able to adjust. If you notice issues I'd mix it 50/50 with science diet or Royal Canin large breed puppy food -- those are gentle on the stomach.

The weight is fine for a pampered pet line although ideally it'd end up as a 60-90lb dog from functional lines if they exist.

His stomach issues subsided thank goodness he’s now 4 months and 68 pounds so I think we are back on track he comes from a great middlepos and makhulu blood line so we are expecting great results with him .
