I apologize for some of these being sideways. I tried my best to edit them and rotate them but every time I do they still land up sideways!

Keep in mind these were shot throughout the month so he could be bigger now :)

Also noticed my last update was Oct 1st and I weighed him that day, today being Oct 26 and Bayne’s last weigh in was Oct 19th when he went to the vet :)
So he could be heavier right now. By that math though he is still averaging over 1 pound a day

What a beautiful expressive face...SO KISSABLE.

Yes I love kissing his big mouth , I pull back and he looks at me like “what you doing” in shock hahaha.

Here’s a photo of Bayne’s paw in the snow on my steps. His paw nearly covers a whole 2 by 4 plank

Hey everyone I had a question about feeding for you guys.

So Bayne eats a decent amount as you all know. Always finishing off 10 cups (4070cal) a day and sometimes 12 cups (4884cal)

As of recently Bayne seems to be more hungry. Eating 12 cups more often than not.

So I was wondering, should I just start feeding him 12 cups everyday, and if there is any leftover great then if not at least he has the food?
Also, what happens if he finishes all 12 cups. Do I give him more?
Bayne is good with “free” eating. I give him all his food in the morning portioned out and he slowly eats throughout the day. It’s when he finishes it all early and I notice it I’ll give him some more to top him up.
Eating nearly 5000 cal seems like a lot I don’t want to over feed him but as we know he’s quite the large boy with large parents.

Please chime in :) thanks.

My 10 month old 120 pound Bullmastiff is eating 6 cups a day of Acana and Stella & Chewy's plus training treats and table scraps. He will eat more on most days if I let him, but I know for about 1 or 2 days out of the week it seems like enough to fully satisfy him. He is in optimal shape right now. I can see his ribs, but he definitely looks well fed. I get the impression that he would get fat if I let him eat all he wants. It's just like me if I don't control my appetite. I know that if I read the feeding directions from Acana, they would recommend about 4-5 cups for him. To me, 10-12 cups for your EM seems like a generous amount.

I apologize for the late response!

While I appreciate the answer and response I would have to respectfully disagree.
A Bull Mastiff to EM comparison is quite apples to oranges.
For a 120lbs bull mastiff I would say somewhere in the 4-5 cups seems like the perfect amount. But every dog is different. Plus it depends on their exercise, how much they are in the cold, and then how big they’re going to be overall if they’re a puppy.
Acana recommends for my dogs weight , and if I max their scale out at adult weight of 176 it says 7 2/3 cup. Which he’s obviously going to be more.
Many Mastiff feeding guides online say EM eat 10-12 cups a day, some go up to 15 cups if they’re more active.
I can give Bayne all the food he wants he wouldn’t eat it all. Sometimes there is food left over at the end of the night that goes back in his bin.
Seems like he’s growing more again because he’s having days where he just sleeps all day. Can leave him and get home from work he’s laying in the same spot. Those days he eats 8.5 cups only. Other days when he’s more awake he eats 10. If he’s outside in the yard with me he can eat 12.
plus the weather here is cool too right now which has an effect on how much he will eat.

I didn't factor in the weather. I know dogs will eat a lot more in cold weather because they burn extra calories when it's cold. I live in Florida where it's hot all year and you live in Canada where it's cold for 3/4 of the year. Of course, some of this will also depend on how much time your dog spends outside vs inside. I've been to other forums, and 10-12 cups of premium kibble does seem like a lot even to EM owners, but most of them aren't living in Canada. So as long as you don't think he's getting overweight, I think you're probably feeding him the right amount.

No worries there my friend.
I wish I lived in Florida. It’s crazy how we can have days where it’s 110 here then in 6 months be -40 or lower.
He doesn’t spend a ton of time outside when it’s really cold. He enjoys being outside so we hook him up out there. If there isn’t much wind he will spend a decent amount of time outside wether he’s hooked up or around the yard with us. If it’s -15C/5F but windy we will limit his time to 30-45 minutes. He has a nice double coat.
I went for an hour walk with him in -18C/-1F and he wasn’t cold at all. He loved it. I got cold hahaha.
I do think he eats a lot of food for it being premium kibble but I do think he will be quite large 240+ I think. I would love to get you a photo of his side when he’s standing he looks great. Nice big chest and you can see his tummy taper in. But here’s some laying down photos of him instead hahaha. He’s about 4 feet long if not more. Well over 5 feet head to tail. You can kind of see how thick his legs are. It’s unreal.

Hello everyone! hope everyone is doing good getting all ready for Christmas.

Back at it with another Bayne update. He recently just hit the 6 month mark and he’s growing steady.
I’m not sure how much he weighs now because the vets are closed here for all non essential things so he can’t go get his nails cut there and use the big scale haha.
Pet salons are allowed to stay open so he goes there now for anyone wondering how his nails are being cut.
If I had to guess he is probably around 140lbs but I am no expert so no hate if I eventually weigh him and I’m wrong.

His protective guard dog instincts are coming in strong. When someone pulls up he immediately sits and watches out all windows. When they come to the door he is at the door ready for whomever comes in. He will listen and track them through windows and follow them around the house till they get to the door, funny how quiet they are though hey? No bark from him. Just an alert dog ready to protect.
Sometimes you’ll get one loud warning “WOOF” but that’s it.

He is eating well. Finishing around 12 cups of food a day now or 4884 calories.

Now that there’s snow on the ground and he only poops on grass I have to walk him around the yard to stir one up for him to poop.
also I have to always have him on leash because I find he will run away from me and I’m stuck chasing him. He doesn’t stick close to the house yet I’m hoping as he gets older that will change.

A problem we ran into just as of recent was he was ALWAYS pooping in the house. Even if just left alone for 30 minutes come back and poop. We couldn’t figure it out then I think we finally figured it where it was anxiety from being “trapped” in the kitchen. Perhaps he feels it’s too small or he just wants to protect the whole out. We have a pretty big kitchen. Enough for his full twin size bed and room to play. But he always kept pooping when we would leave him locked in here. (we have a little gate to block him off to the rest of the house) so we’ve decided to trust him and finally give him full freedom throughout the house when we leave and for the past several days we get home from work to a mess free house with a sleeping Mastiff in the living room.

Hope you guys enjoyed this update. If you have any questions about him don’t hesitate to ask :)
