Being fat doesnt have nothing to do with the protein, in fact much protein the better but i see you already know what you want to know so good luck in that

Extra protein= extra calories= potential for weight gain..... id rather feed my dog more cups of kibble with less protein than say 3 cups high protein, and she still wants more!

I'm with Kingmark, stick with Orijen and Acana, they are extremely high quality kibbles, low heat processed, and very well balanced for ultimate health. And I disagree with your computation. Protein is great, fat is great in balance to the protein, the calories that hurt are the carbohydrates. It's the same with humans, it's the carbs that pack on the pounds. Protein and fat satisfy and keep the dog happy and healthy. As for "she still wants more", some dogs are grazers and some are gobblers, it's better to have a grazer who doesn't wolf the food down without feeling the fullness of eating. However, in some dogs it is hard wired from birth. I've got a grazer, but then again, we've had her predominately on Acana since we brought her home, and I think always having a bowl of kibble available (which we do) makes her less hysterical about the presentation of food. If she gets hungry she can have a snack. All of her kibble meals are blended with home cooked meats. I know it's not everyone's way, but it's ours and she is a happy and healthy dog.

Well, I feed mine earthborn meadow feast and they love it, never been a fan of puppy food! The one thing I can't figure out is Ghost has nice firm stool, but Sage seems to always have soft stool! That seems odd to me!

from my perspective your breeder is wrong , carbohydrates , which foods that don't have high protein or fat tend to have lots of , are what you want less of ....... dogs use protein and fat , they have not much use for carbs except for calories ......... a dog with kidney disease may benefit with a low protein , but not a healthy dog ........... my solution for feeding less and a dog still being hungry is to soak the kibble in an equal or slightly more volume of water , it will expand to one and a half or twice the volume ............

I absolutely agree with Marke. I also know that protein and fat play a huge role in satisfying hunger. It's one of the reasons people lose weight on a high protein diet. I don't have any links for you, but you can easily find information on this.

Would be the difference in feeding 38% protein vs 28%? Are their pluses and minuses for both?

So if I eat a 22 oz ribeye once a day then I will lose weight?

I think you're joking, right? I guess that would depend on what the rest of your diet is like. Seriously, my daughter was diagnosed with type 1, insulin dependent diabetes, when she was 2. That was 23 years ago. Back then there were strict meal plans. It's pretty darn difficult to force a baby to eat, or to forbid them to eat when they really are hungry. We learned quickly, per our nutritionists guidance, that combining protein and healthy fats kept her feeling full longer. Not only that, but the combination helped keep her blood sugar from spiking which made something like peanut butter and crackers a perfect bedtime snack.

You will be feeding up to 6 cups a day on almost all foods. A puppy needs more protein to build muscle. More fats and carbs means exactly THAT MORE FAT. Protein is the foundation for energy muscle mass and health. More carbs will mean your dog will be more hungry sooner. Carbs burn faster . How do you feel after pasta vs chicken?

Right now she is eating 6.5 cups of kibble per day.... transitioning to earthborn meadow feast and so far do good at 50:50 earthborn and natures domain puppy! I think she had a growth spurt longer and taller so I can see more rib than I was before might up her a half a cup... She very active
