Play Pen Recommendations for New Puppy

Looking for any recommendations of play pen brands you like for your puppies. I already have a crate (the same one we use for Diesel which we love). But I want a play pen area for her as well. Are there any brands you have used and loved or vice versa ones you used and hated?

Also another question which I have some time to look into. But, do any of you use double leashes for walking two dogs rather than two separate leashes? We never did because Cerberus was so much older and needed to go his own pace. But once our baby is grown up her and Diesel should be at the same energy level and equally capable.

I used one like this for my puppies. It was sturdy, I already had one (bonus!), and I used it to later block off the Xmas tree when the pups were little. I've never tried one made specifically for pets.

By double leashes, do you mean a coupler? I've tried all lengths of couplers and I hate them. I just don't feel that I have enough control. Not because the dogs are misbehaving or anything. *I* don't feel that if something came up I would be in as good of control as if I had to separate leashes. I prefer a hands free leash with a handle close to the where the collar attachment is though, so maybe I haven't given them a fair try. I know people that love couplers, but they all seem to have small dogs.

I was looking at one that was very similar to that. Did you have issues with chewing since it's plastic? We have also seen some metal ones at comparable prices (or even less).

My guys weren't chewers, so no. I don't think any of my sisters-in-law had a problem with their pups chewing similar kinds of play yards.

Haha, love the pink! And about the leash coupler, I'd never really liked them before. I preferred to just walk with one dog on either side of me. But now I've started to walk all three dogs at once in the mornings before work, and I've found that a coupler is the only way to stay sane. It took me a while to find one that worked for us. Some were too long and Mazey kept trying to switch which side of Atlas she was walking on, which didn't work at all. Then we got this ultra short one from Drs. Foster and Smith, and it was too short. But combined with Atlas' collar, which adds a bit more length, it is working well for us finally.

I use a double leash with a single handle when I walk both dogs. It basically is 2 5 foot leashes attached by a swivel to a handle. It allows the dogs to switch sides without the leashes tangling together. I found this to work much better for us since the dogs are not required to stay beside the walker unless they forget and start pulling.
I do have the metal xpen mentioned above. It worked with Kryten but not Jiggers.

Smokeycat - Ya I really don't expect to be using the pen for more than a month or two. The idea is to eventually graduate her to a room like we did with Diesel with the crate there if we need to secure her and serving as her safe space all the time. Diesel loves his crate so much now that he is older. We rarely lock him in it though since we have the kitchen fenced off and he is happy to hang out there when we aren't around.

The biggest issue now is I am fighting with myself not to pamper the puppy with unneeded things like her own pink princess bed.... We have a perfectly good puppy bed that Diesel outgrew ages ago.... But..... I have to keep reminding myself of that.

There are some evil voices in my head. "But doesn't she deserve her very own princess bed? Imagine the adorable photos.... "

Firmly telling my evil voice to be quiet.

Sean already stopped me from getting the matching princess food and water bowl I saw at the pet store last night (they were steel of course because we won't use plastic).

I used a double one - my girls are too strong in the meantime to walk them on double leash: first the leash can break with the 2 of them (Sophia alone broke a solid long line for training), secondly i can get face planted (which happened with Jack alone many times before). So, apart from the leash itself, it's good to consider whether you can stop them or not in case something happens and they launch together on a double leash.

Teodora - I actually asked about double leash also so you are good. :)

I was considering whether I should try it out with Diesel and Kahlua once she is bigger.

So the new playpen arrived.... but given that Kahlua can climb 4 foot tall fences I'm not sure it will actually be much use. :/
