new to weight pulling

So I finally ordered a freight harness from ikon outfitters for my female corso, Neela. I have been wanting to start weight pull training with her for like a year now, lol. She is very comfortable in the harness and we have been working on proper technique and noise distraction. She is doing great! She didn't even care about the jugs full of rocks she was pulling around the yard, now I am building her a nice drag sled to start her learning technique with slight weight since of course she doesn't even feel the milk jug. I will post pics and maybe a video soon!!!

I would love to see some Vid of Neela weight pulling. I have considered doing this with my EM to get rid of some of her energy.

I was hoping to get some pics and videos today but it was already to dark outside when i finally had to to train her, but she did pull the sled just fine, and she is really getting the hang of the commands, I'm very proud of her, maybe i can get some pics tomorrow. Next might be the puppy Mojo, he is ten months now, but i will probably wait until he is about a year so that I do not hurt his bones.

You can start the puppy now, just no heavy weight, no straining. Light weight stuff that takes no effort to drag is fine. You can get him used to the harness, and sled with just enough weight on it to keep him stable. As long as you don't load him up to the point of having to WORK at it its fine.

ya I was thinking of getting Mojo to just pull the milk jugs with rocks around for awhile before he was able to start pulling the heavier stuff, guess I'll be trying to sweet talk my wife into letting me buy another harness lol!

Ya the harnesses can get pretty pricey...I went with the one from ikon outfitters cause it was only like 50 or 60 bucks and I wasn't sure if my dogs would like to weight pull, so I wanted to be safe...if we ever start competing I will probably get a better one, but this one works great. And I do have a short clip I want to add but can't get it to work.

I actually entered Beaux in a weight pull this weekend in upstate NY, w/ the IWPA. I was able to borrow a proper harness at the event and was able to have him do 5 passes with a cart on wheels w/ various amounts of weight. He liked it and did fairly well. I would recommend the IWPA to ppl interested in pulling, they were very welcoming and knowledgable w/ events all over the countrty.

Do you mind if I ask where upstate? You can PM the answer if you want. I'm upstate, so I'm curious. We've not kept up with weight pulling, but when we were it was IWPA

Beauxjaxson when Neela becomes more skilled I would really love to enter her in an iwpa competition! How long was the event? And were there a lot of participants? I'm really hoping we can find one near us, we live in maryland, but if need be I wouldn't mind driving a couple hours.

I am in the Albany area, the event was in Clifton Park , about 15 mins North of Albany. The IWPA website shows multiple regions w/ pulls all over the east coast but cooincednetally there are a few in my direct area and North in Lake Placid which I frequent in th winter. I did see some in Onieda which is west of Albany. THE EVENT IS LONG !!! , the dogs weigh in in the 8-9am range, and then the large dogs go last, so any mastiff owners would be in for a long day, probably 6-8rs long. But you can leave and come back or go eat etc. I enjoyed it and may try it again.

Wow that is a long day, hopefully which ever one I go to would have things to do near by while we waited, but I would prolly just end up watching the whole event anyways lol. Was Beaux competing or just pulling for fun.

That's awesome congrats...I hope my pups will do good as well....do they check anything at weigh in besides weight or are all dogs welcome? i/e neutered or not?
