Freshwater tanks

We have a 400gal tank in our dining room wall. It's plumbed to be pretty self-maintaining. I have a friend that breeds Amazon river turtles(red-headed side-necks) and we let him house his extra turtles at our house. They are really cool to watch.

We have a Jack Dempsey, 2 parrot cichlids, 8 giant danios, 2 featherfin catfish, a common pleco and 4 bristlenose plecos. Oh, and a random African cichlid that kept getting returned for being too aggressive. There are also some ghost shrimp hiding out in there too.

I might add the black ghost knife fish that lives in our 37gal tank when it gets big enough.

I'd love to do something that big. My dream tank is a custom, several hundred gallon, stream tank. With a current, and hidey holes, and what not, for the stream/current fish.

400 gallons..... my dream! You'd need a scuba tank to get it clean! I'd love to have a room divider tank like that though. The older I get the bigger my tanks get, the bigger my dogs get, the bigger my vehicle gets!

This is the type of tank we have.

We replaced the glass with Starfire(sp?) glass.(Not fun.) The tank is actually in a room that we built in my woodshop so the glass window is just flush on the inside wall.

It's not too bad to clean. The real problem is that I can't catch any of the fish once they are in the tank. I had an injured danio that I wanted to pull out and put in a hospital tank but I couldn't catch her. It finally died and I think the Jack Dempsey ate it.

We have a 55 gallon fresh water tank, more of a hobby for my man than me, but I enjoy watching them :)

The ghost knife is my favorite, the only I picked out :)

I used to have a small tank with a variety of fish. Started off with a beta, then got some platys then added an African swimming frog and an apple snail but the tank was just too small to enjoy. I would love to get a larger tank and do an aquaculture scene like one of these. Just need to find the time!

I recently lost my pleco :( That and my Platinum male Beta had a SERIOUS case of Bubble eye that I am in the process of curing. His eye is back to normal size now just a little droopy. He looks like he had a stroke :(

LMAO! They remind me of some precious sparkly treasures from the sea that I want to take home with me everytime I look at those fishies...

They're fun fish!

I only have 1 from when I first got him and I had him shipped from Thailand so he was a little stressed and more pink than white. This is what they are suppose to look like:

Beautiful beta kbuchanan66. Love the aquascaping that was done. I bought a beta when my son was about a year old. It was in his room but I fed him, made sure little fingers couldn't get at him and did all the maintenance. Amazing beta, full of fight and when he say me in the room, he would interact with me. Was doing a thorough cleaning one day and had the tank on my kitchen counter (it was just a small one). Scooped him up to put him in a holding tank I had set up and he flipped out of the net...

...And right into the sink, landing on the food disposal rubber. I stood there for about 2 minutes trying to decide the best way to get this fish without losing him, slid the net carefully under him and he did one flip and went right done into the unit. I had no choice but to turn it on and grind up the fish. I was in hysterics when I called my husband at work. He thought my son had been hurt and he couldn't stop laughing at me when I told him I was a horrible mother that killed her son's fish. Haven't had a fish since, think I am permanently scarred. LOL.

Someone should have warned me, saved me the money for therapy. The kids laugh about it too and it is a story that floats around the house...remember when mom...
