That is great news!!!

Sorry to hear the kids biological father is choosing to act that way. It makes a difficult situation for all involved. Not sure about UK but in US I'd advise the Mom to take his sorry arse back to court IMMEDIATELY. A father has a legal and moral obligation to provide financial support for his children. There are no excuses. I've spent the past 15 years dragging my ex kicking and screaming through the court system for that very reason. Even though both kids are now adults he is still paying on back owed child support with interest. JMO.

He's started paying a little bit but he's not making things easy.
It's Caroline's fight. All I can do is hold her hand.

Oh well on a lighter note the docs are happy with how Caitlin's chest has healed after her live was removed and they have said she can go swimming.
So last night we booked a surprise trip to a holiday camp for the weekend.
Swimming pools and slides and inflatables.
Get work finished today then pick the kids up from school. We are telling them that we are just going out for dinner so it will be a shock when we get there.

That

Was

AWESOME.

Best weekend ever. Everyone is home and pooped but we all had fun.
The park upgraded us to a luxury caravan, we've are like kings, me and Billy won an archery competition, we went bumper boating, poor Caroline got dragged up on stage to take part in the human table (we may have been nominating her, a bit, haha).
We went rock climbing and the poor instructor managed to basically drag Caitlin up the wall but she made it to the top and we were all very proud of her.

Oh and her brother Billy gave his pot of pennies to a girl who was crying because she had lost her purse. I was very proud of him.

Update.

Caitlin's doing really really well.
She's amazed me with her energy and enthusiasm for things.
She still has off days and can be very tired and snugly at times but she's starting to go out more and more with her friends.

She will be starting comprehensive school (high school) in a few weeks and is very excited at the thought of getting a bus to school with her friends.

And I think she looks absolutely smashing in her new uniform.

It's coming in really well. To be honest it needs a trim but I can see why she doesn't want one. She's been bald for soooooo long.

She looks amazing! I could totally see her rocking a sassy pixie cut. High school? Really? High school in the US is generally grades 9-12, so maybe age 14 going in. She looks so young. Or maybe I'm just getting old. Lol

I suggested pixie cut. I think it would cute and also more "girly".
Yeah in UK comprehensive school (high school) is 11-16yrs old.

Back to school tomorrow.

Thank the Lord haha.
Although it's already been said that she doesn't want to go, and which kid does, but she's said that she will pretend to have head aches. Need to see how this play out put obviously she CANT pretend to have head aches.
I've a feeling she won't enjoy it, and I know she's going to get upset by the other kids at school.

Who knew parenting would be so hard.

Parenting IS hard:( we do the best we can hope for success.

It is. I knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park when I got together with a women who had three kids, but by Lord I'm struggling.

I know this is a slow thread nowadays but I just HAD to update.
Yesterday a man came to the house. His name was Mark and he was a very nice gent.
Mark explained that he had spare money and instead of drinking or buying flash cars he liked to help people.
Turns out Mark has lost family to cancer and has made it his mission to help people.
He explained that, as he sees it there is loads of support out there for people with cancer during treatment but not a lot for the family when treatment comes to an end.
Mark explained that he'd like to help us (Caroline and I) in some way.
If we were struggling to pay the gas bill he wanted to pay it for us. If we had a broken washing machine he'd like to pay to have it fixed. If the cars on the blink he's like to pay for the repairs.

Oh my god where do these people come from? How do people like him go under the radar.
Turns out he does charity boxing matches and runs a charity shop as well as working full time to finance his donations.

We are currently struggling to think of what we might need as neither Caroline not my self like the idea of taking charity as there is ALWAYS another person more in need.

I know the gutters need fixing as they are causing damp in the house and I've been trying to get the stuff for the job from work.

Also trying to think of what I myself can do to help this guy out.
First of all I think I need to sponsor his next charity fight.

cj--- thank you for sharing this story, wow. My mood just did a flip this morning, and now I am feeling about as blessed as you and Caroline.

Almost magical--- I wonder how he found you, found about about your situation? Anyway, it doesn't really matter; his intention is to do good, share what he can, and hopefully ease others' struggles. It doesn't get any better than that, does it.

So inspiring. :)

That's really awesome! How good of you to also already be thinking about how to "pay it forward ". How's our wee girl doing at school? I hope the other kids being good to her.

It doesn't. I think that people forget about everyone put the "patient". To the point that this week the kids grandma has been asking how Caitlin wants her bedroom decorating.
Hang on, it's not Caitlin's room. She shares with her sister at home and with all the grand kids at Nanas house so not just Caitlin needs consulting in this.

I think (if I have the story right) he helped a family where Caroline used to work and they gave him our details.

It IS good that someone knows that there are more people affected and hurt by all of this crap than just the person with the tumour.
Caroline has had it so hard these last months. I've been thinking of how to spoil her for weeks now. I've been thinking of paying for her to have a pamper day or something.
Though today she's been saying how much she's sick of being nothing more than the "mother of a sick child" so next weekend that daddy has the kids we are going to York (beautiful little city) and we are going to drink all day and just be us. Have a proper night out and let our hair down for the first time in forever.

All good. She had a wobble at first but she's settling in now.
I've been laid off from work this week (which obviously sucks big time as. I wages will hurt) but it's given me the time to walk the dog up to the bus stop to meet her from the school bus. That means we can have a little chat about school and stuff and she seems to be having a good time.
She's putting a lot of effort in to homework and seems to have an open mind.

Oh and I took Billy (little brother) to his boxing class tonight where he won the medal for putting in maximum effort. I was so proud of him.
Now if only i can make him concentrate as much on putting shoes on the correct feet as his coaches can on his boxing.

Long time no update.
So everyone is doing great.
Jodie brought a bug home from school so everyone has been full of cold.
We held our breath and crossed our fingers but Caitlin still caught it.
So she's been under the weather for a few days. As you can imagine everything is amplified. The other two kids got calpol and sympathy, Caitlin got a day in hospital. Poor mite.

It seems, with out our knowledge, her nurse nominated her for a bravery award.
Well today we got a letter telling us the committee has decided she has won and as such we have to get her a nice new dress so she can go to the ceremony and collect her trophy.
She has won a prize of her choice up to £500 so she has some thinking to do.

And on a selfish note, I'm happy that I got cuddles the other night.
Okay she may have waited until she was coughing and sneezing her germs all over before she thought I was an acceptable person to cuddle but I'm still happy.
I'm sure any parents know how hard it is to get a hug from a 11yr old, never mind if you are not her real dad.

Oh crap I nearly forgot.
She had her first big scan a few weeks ago. The results are not in yet but the consultant sneaked a look at the scan and he says the tumour seems to be the same size and shape as before.
