I've seen many comments on feeding dogs yogurt and the benefits it can provide. My question is how much and how often can I feed yogurt to Kujo (6.5 month old DDB)?

Just to give you a picture of his diet right now, we're using Natures Recipe Salmon formula for all life stages, he gets 3 cups in the morning, 2 at lunch, and another 3 in the evening (granted he will sometimes not eat until lunch or even dinner, so the amount he's getting in a day varys from 4 cups to 7 cups a day). He also gets a raw egg about every other day, sometimes I scramble the egg to mix it up (he absolutely loves eggs!). I haven't tried giving him a boiled egg yet, but I'm sure he would love it. Also, once in a blue moon when he's being picky and wont eat all day, I'll drizzle a little olive oil on his kibble.

I want to add yogurt into his diet, but am unsure of how much and how often. Please and thank you for all your thoughts.

Yowza that's a lot of kibble for a pup that young! A good spoonful of yogurt once a day would be a good place to start.

Yes! I was hoping you would respond Smart_Family!

and yes, I thought the bags recommendations were a little high as well (50 - 100 pounds = 4-7 cups a day)! Luckily Kujo seems to agree with you and will only eat when he's hungry. Some days he only eats 3 cups, some days 7! He's in great condition though, not fat or skinny, muscles are developing nicely, very steady weight gain, he's about 70 pounds now and just shy of 7 months old. Because he's not greedy with his food, I'm inclined to put his food down and let him decide when he's hungry enough to eat, especially since he lets us know when he needs to go out!

Thank you for the yogurt recommendation, I will start him on this in the morning and see how he does for the next few days.

Have I mentioned that I love this forum! :)

After hearing about yogurt on here I give Murphy a spoonful every morning and he LOVES LOVES LOVES it. Murphy now will only take his breakfast from me (well I am really the only one up with him in the am) My husband won't put any in his bowl and he refuses to eat. The way I look at it is if its good for him then why the heck not!

Titan has 2 tablespoons of yogurt in his evening meal. He loves the yogurt.

Cruiser gets 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt in his breakfast each morning.

As expected, Kujo loves yogurt! He will eat his entire breakfast now where as before he would have maybe half of it and walk away. So now my concern is over feeding him (lol the concerns never seem to end). Smart_Family said the diet I layed out was A LOT, so my question is for a 70 pound almost 7 month old DDB, how much kibble should he be getting in a day? The bags recommendation is high, but this wasn't a problem when he would nibble on his food and walk away.

Also, since I'm adding the yogurt to his morning meal, I don't know if I should include his egg at the same time. Maybe I'll move the egg to his dinner feeding.

    and here's a picture just because :)

Their recommendations are insane. I feed more than the bag tells me and my 16 month old is eating less than that. Also do a bit of research on menadione.

I have, as soon as I can get my bf on board and convicne him why we should switch again, we will. I'm the worrier when it comes to Kujo and it tends to drive my bf batshit crazy, so I have to approach this topic just right. Argh, I will leave the personal stuff out though, thanks again Smart_Family!

Nope just as long as its plain yogurt.

I alternate between the sour cream, yogurt, and cottage cheese. I don't give it often for obvious reasons ( gas chambers)

How old should a puppy be before giving him/her yogurt?

There's no age to start :) I gave Stone yogurt when I brought him home at 9 weeks.

When selecting your yogurt watch for artificial sweeteners, plain usually is a good choice, find one high in l-bifidis and l-acedophlus(my spelling sucks). A high amount of live cultures is what you want! Start right away slowly, watch for stomach trouble and go from there! It's a great food additive, helps keep the tummy normal, helps keep the coat shiney and makes a great treat!

I've been using the Greek all natural plain yogurt (I couldn't find organic) and Kujo loves it! I bet there's lots of good options out there though.

I use the Kroger brand, plain non-fat yogurt. Titan loves it!
