Yelps for unknown reason

Brinks is our 15 month old EM. While playing last month he stopped and let out a yelp. He didn't fall or seem to twist, pull or hurt anything. No limping and after visual inspection and a "hands on" exam- no wincing or apparent pain. He went about the evening with no further issues.

Tonight, he has yelped 3 separate times just walking outside, turning around in the kitchen and then laying down in his bed (as he reached his head back to get a toy). Same outcome. No limping or yelping...after visual inspection and a "hands on" exam (nails, paws, joints, spine, ears)....nothing! We have no ideas WHY he yelped?!!

Anyone experience this? Should I worry? He has a vet appointment Saturday for annual checkup so I will likely mention it then too.

Yes, pressed lightly at first (everywhere), then with more force....no response besides licking my face. :)

Dogs many times will hurt there neck, lumbar spine, hips & tail.
In something he has done he more likely as twisted something.
Many times when a owner are unable to see the signs, MOST vets will watch the dogs face or body movements to see if an area is effected.
Vets usually put them on bed rest, potty breaks, Rimadyl for a week or two.
If the problem persists the vet will ask to do x-rays of the body from neck to tail on the right side down & on there back.
To see if a vertebrae is out of place or shoulders & hips ok.

My suggestion is put the dog bed rest and only leash walk to go out potty & really tell your vet on Saturday. Why bc if there is an underlining problem from hips, shoulders, elbows or knees if is documented and they can find a solution ..

Stella did this with her neck twice now. She would let me touch her neck and even move it. but sometimes she would go to move it a certain way and just yelp. She also wouldnt bend it down all the way (e.g., she would try to pick toys up with her paws instead of mouth, needed her food and water bowl slightly raised). We gave her a small amount of pain meds and limited activity as much as possible. both times she was back to normal in about 3 days. We still took her to the vet though, and if she didnt get better in a week I would have had an x-ray done.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yes, we checked mouth, nose, ears, between his paws, his belly....literally every inch. No yelping throughout the night or today- he even went to his test for Canine Good Citizen and PASSED! :)
JCook: We 1st suspected his neck/shoulder area...because the reaction came on so quick with certain movement caused the "yelp" but it's been so hard to pinpoint. We will see what the Vet says Saturday.

Our Bella has a bad neck; she does the same thing occasionally. The only way we can tell it's her neck is because she just can't get comfy no matter where she is. And she walks with her head lowered more than usual. BTW congrats on the CGC!

Titan did that when his former owner had him. He told me that Titan would limp and yelp when he was about 12-18 months. It went away on it's own. He did the same, check him over and applied pressure. nada.

keep us posted

So far so good! Vet did a thorough check this weekend and said we'll wait and see, we'll bring him back in if it happens again.
He is playing and being his usual puppy-self. I guess I can stop worrying so much and just keep a close watch. Thanks everyone! :)
