One word....ignorance. I don't live too far from Philly, and my husband grew up in Philly. He tells me that in west Philly the Corso is the new "fighting dog." A co-worker of his told him that Corsos are being bred to Pitts...they feel this combo will create the ultimate fighting dog. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. A few weeks ago, on NBC news there was a piece about 4 Corsos being abused and the male Corso attacked a woman and her dog. The dogs were used for fighting. I was walking Crickett at the park, and some guy walked right up to me and stated how beautiful she was, he then asked if I was interested in breeding her to a blue pitt his friend has. I LOST MY FREAKIN MIND!! I think in this area, and I am sure others we will see the Corso start to get a bad rap just like pittbulls do.

jersey girl i actually want to throw up i am still new to the mastiffs but in my little time of knowing them i dont know how and why anyone would ever in their right mind compare a mastiff to a bitbull as i was raised with them my whole life most ned noses but i just cannot see any kind of comparison between them my distant cousin contacted me on facebook because she saw pictures of daphne and asked me if my pitbull snores because she just got one and wanted to know i actually went ape crap on her because my dog looks absolutely nothing like a pitbull then when she found out she was a mastiff she had the gall to ask if i let my kids ride her after that i tore into her im getting tired of people fighting these poor animals and then to start fighting corsos is disgusting i really dont think i should say on here what id do if i ever caught someone in the act of fighting a dog...end of rant sorry

I have seen this breeder and I was wondering how his dogs became so huge--good looking out crosses whatever they are!

Well said diverdan! These people are human filth and it breaks my heart that these dogs will get used for fighting. Animal control in Philly need to get their act together. The NBC story I spoke about revealed that the neighbors complained about how these 4 Corsos were being treated back in July. Horrible living conditions, no shelter and hardly any food. Animal Control told a neighbor that the owner seemed like "a nice guy." That nice guy is now being charged with animal abuse and those dogs suffered all these months.

mostly corso to keep them looking closer to the so called pit look n ability to move nicely with a hint of boerboel for the huge chest n shoulders n head(hint large size)
so in other word a short leg bandog as they try to keep there dog hight under 25in

Numerous ppl have told me that my CC looks like a giant pit (i think the ear crop adds to that comparison as well), I dont mind that much because I dont think pits are bad dogs. What concerns me though is the idea that ppl will want to cross them with pits and create a larger, pit like dog for fighting purposes. It makes me sick to stomach to think of dogs being trained to fight.

I don't think adding CC would keep them resembling Pits at all. The 2 breeds are so very different. Sure if you have no idea what you are looking at you may see a resemblance... but once you get past the color and ear crop there are really not any thing else. Structure, conformation, the heads aren't even close... hell their coats don't even resemble eachothers lol.
I can see bandogges being used to get the size and more Am Bulldogs/E bulldogs for the size and chest.
To be honest I didn't see much of a connection of the dogs in the video to a correct Corso.
Don't get me wrong they are nice looking dogs, but I didn't think CC.
As for using CC for fighting, I wouldn't think that would work very well. It is not a breed that was bred to be DA. They will finish a fight but by nature most will not start it. They were a farm dog, if they killed other animals they would be useless to the farmer. There is a breed of dog in Italy, the Volpino (a small spitz breed) who's job it was to bark at intruders (being small and yappy) and to alert the Mastiffs ;) These dogs all lived together, or they didn't live...
Most CC have a higher defense drive then a prey drive, yes they can add other breeds to change that. But I more often hear of CC's being rescued after being used as bait dogs :(
The whole thing is sickening really...

To me Cane Corso and Pitbulls look nothing alike. It must just that I grew up around Staffie's and Pitbulls so I know the difference between the breeds but those dogs are definitely not pitbulls. I kept thinking, damn that is a big pitbull, no way that is a purebred pit. I hate seeing them used for fighting.

Boerboel too? I never thought of that mix in there. There is a breeder in Ca, advertising Boersoes CCxBoerboel. Google it and see that mix!

I wouldn't think the CC would do well in a fight either, but from what my husbands co-worker told him they are. His words..."you want to win money, bet on the cc" My husband had to cut the conversation short with this guy...he couldn't believe this guy was into dog fighting. You are correct...sickening!!
