We are at our wits end with Dixie, our 9 month female Cane Corso. A little background on Dixie...

Weve had her for about 2.5 months now. Since the day we brought her home, she is constantly pissing in the house.. We got her when she was about 7 months old, and the "breeder" that I got her from was a scumbag. We more or less rescued her from less than desirable conditions. The day I met the "breeder" and Dixie, I drove about 2 hours. We were going back and forth on the phone and through email for a few weeks, and the more pics she sent me the more we fell in love with her. Looking back on it, this "breeder" talked a big game, but was actually full of shit. I got to her house, and it was a total shithole. Out of the 5 dogs that were at her home, Dixie was the only one that looked as if she has been eating, all the others looked waaaaay malnourished. I should have instantly turned around and walked out but Dixie was looking like the only healthy one. Well at least the only one that you couldnt see her ribs. After looking at how her dogs were treated, I knew I had to get her out of there..

While we were sitting at the kitchen table filling out paperwork, one of her dogs stood next to me and took a huge dump on the floor. Two seconds later, one of the other dogs came and scarfed it down like it was Thanksgiving dinner! When I brought it to the "breeders" attention, her response was " Oh, thats OK". WTF?!?!

So I am convinced that all of her dogs just used her home as their own personal toilets, and Dixie was COMPLETELY not house trained for the first 7 months of her life. Since we've got her, we take her out at least every 30-45 mins. After playing, sleeping, eating etc. But some how some way, she finds a way to go in the house, and even in her crate. Im going to take a urine sample into the vet tomorrow to check for a possible UTI, but I know thats not the case.

Has anyone else ran into this problem and do you mind sharing how you solved the problem? She really is a great dog but this has gotta stop... Thank you

Yikes.

I'd go back to ground zero and really work on teaching her a "potty" command. That way you can take her out and tell her to "potty" in the approved location. When she's inside you MUST catch her in the act so you can tell her "NO" in a calm, firm voice - then take her directly outside and tell her to "potty" again in the approved location.

Does she mess where she eats? If not... move where she eats to the last place she defecated - after cleaning well with an enzymatic cleaner (like simple solution or nature's miracle). That she messes her crate is a big problem... I'm not sure how you can get her back to her good instincts, but there must be a way!

There are phermone posts you can get for the yard that might help you identify "the place" for potty, they have mixed reviews, but might be worth a shot. (Amazon.com: Simple Solution Pee Post Pheromone-Treated Yard Stake: Pet Supplies)

She's still young, so don't give up on her yet... just be really consistent and try to catch her in the act so you can let her know where not to go - and be very positive when she goes in the right place - have as many potty parties as you can out in the potty place.

Good luck! Thanks for rescuing her from the "breeder". I hope Karma finds them soon.

Get some puppy training mats
Slowly move them to the back door and away ya go ;)
We have a 10 week old who now sits at the back door to be let out to the toilet, we still have a Mat down in case he can't hold it but hasn't had a mishap in week or so.

Hope this helps alittle
