Willow not feeling well, thoughts?

Willow is now 7 months old. My how time flies. She threw up twice last night and then again once this morning. I called the vet and they said, "We dont have any available appointments for today. Maybe she ate something she shouldn't have. Fast her for 12 hours, no food/water. Then see what happens."

Ugh, not the answer I expected from a veterinary office.

Withholding food, I understand, but withholding water? Don't think I'm comfortable with that. She hasn't thrown up since 9am but she is just not her cheerful self. She is usually cuddly with me but today she sought comfort from my bf, which for her in unusual behavior. She seems depressed. i dont know.

She doesn't have diarrhea, no cough, no change in diet. Honestly, nothing out of the ordinary I can think of. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Does she have a temperature?
Not to be gross, but did you notice anything out of the ordinary in the vomit?
If it were I, I wouldn't withhold water, as dehydration may be a possible consequence.

I would suggest keeping an eye out for 'coffee grounds' coloured or blood in the vomit, either of which could be signs of more serious problems. Otherwise, pups DO get upset tummies, so I would just watch her for other symptoms.

I wouldn't withhold water either. If you decide to feed her only give her a small amount of food to see how she does.

Definetly keep an eye on her, blood or "coffee grounds" in the vomit, or bits of something she shouldn't have eaten, would be a sign of a problem. If she starts showing signs of having trouble pooping, or showing signs of adominal pain or discomfort, are all signs of a potential major problem and a vet trip should be done asap.

She does not have a temp. No blood or abnormal coloring to the vomit. I did see pieces of her new chew toy in it though, black rubber from one of those tirebitter toys, trashed immediately! I thought those dog toys were made so it wouldn't make a dog sick? I feel stupid now that I think more and more about it :/

If they get a big enough piece off it can still cause problems :/ keep an eye on her. At 7 months she should be big enough most smaller pieces should pass ok, but just in case....

Ok, well THAT is very likely the culprit. So, I would say the biggest concern now would be a large piece that may cause an obstruction rather than passing through. So, watch for the signs of abdominal discomfort or having trouble pooping that Ruth mentioned. I would also check her poo to see what is passing through.

Boris (our EM) after gnawing on pig's hooves with no problem for months, developed the jaw strength to bite into large pieces and eat at least EIGHT!!! He vomited several. In his case we took him to the vets for X-rays straight away, as there were huge chunks and some were almost whole. Fortunately he had eliminated all the largest pieces and was fine, except for a dodgy stomach and feeling depressed for a day or two.

Poor pup... Hopefully, she will pass the rest of the toy. I do not know of any toy on the market that if it's swallowed does not have the potential to harm a pup. I would keep an eye on the pup while they have any toy.

Please keep us posted on her status.

Willow feels so much better. She's still jot eating much but is bouncy and playful. There had been little pieces of the tire toy in her poop, nothing large, thank goodness. Its so difficult deciding on the right chew toys, as everything we buy, she tears apart like nothing. I've gotten a Galileo bone but she wants nothing to do with it. Stick and stuffed animals that she steals from the kids lol. Oh well. In glad she's doing better. Thank you everyone that posted :)

Poop eyes - that's a NEW one! LOL!!

For a chew toy, you could try the yak chews. Some dogs experience a bad reaction (runny poo), but I think it's a small percentage. They're just yak milk, cow milk, lime juice and a pinch of salt... dried in the sun until SOLID. Denna's enjoying her's. She's not obsessive about it, but it's in her top 10 list.
