Whining after Spa day

I have been lurking for months since I joined. gathering up tips and overall understanding of my CC. Mystique is 15 months and a typical Cane Corso (from what I have greatly learned from this Forum). Last Sunday we took her for a Doggie Spa Day. It included a Shampoo, Conditioning, and nail cutting. She seemed fine when we picked her up, but immediately when we returned home, she started whining. Whining all day and night. Now she normally will wake me up by nudging my head in the morning, but now she just lays there whining in the morning to go out. She will not eat her dry food, or drink much water. Now she will eat wet food if we give it to her, and eat ice chips as well. It is getting a bit frustrating for all of us, b/c our normally happy puppy is now seemingly depressed. We are ignoring her whining as much as possible, but she just gets louder and louder. We are taking her to the vet just to be sure, but it is almost like she is still unhappy since the Spa day.missy.jpg

You have no idea how much this forum has helped me, so I would like to give my sincere thanks for everything you all do!

How did she act at the groomers? Was she straining ,pulling on her collar or bucking? She may have hurt herself. I know Norman would have been terrified ! Also check her feet to make sure she didn't get one of her nails cut too short.

I try very hard to make sure my dogs are not left alone or taken in the back without me. I have seen with my own eyes and heard many stories about dogs being hit and kicked. BTW, I never left my human kid in those type of situations either. At least not until I felt he was old enough and confident to speak up. I would take her to the vet.

Humans can be terrible creatures, not saying that they hurt your dog but it wouldn't surprise me either.

Welcome to the forum! More pics of that beautiful girl.

Sounds like something happened at the doggie spa that may have caused harm to the pup. Titan used to have his nails dremeled at PetSmart until they injured on his paw that caused it to become infected and the nail fell out last year. After 8 vet visits, the infection cleared and the nail has grown back. PetSmart paid for all of his vet visits and medications. I now dremel his nails myself.

Did he get a flea treatment? Maybe he is having a reaction to the flea treatment or shampoo.

Titan also got fleas at PetSmart when he was bathed there. I now groom Titan because I do not use flea prevention.

She did very well with the bath. She didn't like the nail cut too much, as they actually went lower than we are used to. She didnt want them to touch her paws. i didn't see any cuts or bruising on her paws when I checked them at home. She is scratching the carpet a bit lately, so maybe they are sore? I will recheck them when I get home. Thanks for your response.

This was her first time going for a full treatment, and I did not go back with her. sigh... We usually take care of her ourselves, but I wanted a "treat" for her. It did not turn out to be a treat at all!!! She didn't get any flea treatment, though. Sigh..Now I feel bad, but lesson learned.

I will upload some more pics once I get home.

You shouldn't feel bad about it. Most people would be surprised at how nasty some people can be when they know that a dog can't talk and tell on them.

x2 ^^^ Agree!

I also agree with musicdeb, in that it sounds like something happened at the "spa". Get her checked out by a vet, to make sure all is well. Personally, I would not let anyone handle my CC without me being present, much of it has to do with the fact that most would not be able to properly handle him, and also I DO NOT trust people to act right, even IF they are supposedly professionals familiar with dogs. Live and learn, but don't blame yourself, there is no way you could have known. Best wishes and welcome to this amazing forum, and please post more pics of your girl. :)
