@chuckorlando: no Corso has that much ego.

Seriously though ... can't believe the complete ignorance of some people. I've always had shelter dogs but even then, I saw the dog, figured out the breed or likely mix, went home and researched it and then decided whether I wanted to go that direction. I knew going in that I'd be paying more for vet services and medication, etc. It blows my mind when people pick a dog (or more likely, a puppy) because it's "cute" or the fad thing or they want a certain reputation. It's just like you guys say, a "breeder" showing off the dog's teeth is playing right into the "big mean pit" deal. I've known people who go through animals like other people go through tissues: they think they're just cheap, disposable "items" instead of living creatures with lifelong social attachments.
And I know no one asked, but I for one will not turf a dog just because my life changes. I'm currently a shade over 3 months pregnant and it's never even been a question of whether or not the animals will stay. I'd sooner lose a limb than give up any of my furkids for a shallow reason like that. We'll all learn to adjust together and that's that.

Congrats and no worries it can be done. We currently have 6 dogs and 2 kids that are 2 years and 5 mths. Just make sure to have you time with the dogs and you will be good and still sane at the end of it all.

I think one of the thinks that really ticks me off is the excuse "needs a new home because he is getting too big" ....um hello you got an english mastiff/bullmastiff/great dane/insert other giant breed dog...did you think it wouldn't GROW?

Sorry...just had to interject. I'll get off my soap box now.

I agree but I think that many people just don't fathom the size, even when they see the dogs in person. My husband said today, "I just can't believe how big she (Daisy) is." Even though we went to meet many different English Mastiffs before we brought her home and also went out to the breeders and met the mom and the brother of Daisy (dad was a stud from a different kennel) it just doesn't sink in until the dog is standing in your kitchen. Of course, we knew what we were getting into and my husband said the phrase with pride in his voice before he picked her up (face growing red as she must be over 90lbs by now) and said, "You're just my sweet little girl aren't you? It's not your fault that your so big, is it?"

Sadly, most people just realize the size and then panic. I wish it didn't happen though.

It was kind of cute ... for the first few weeks after Oscar came home, hubby would sometimes walk into the room, stare at Oscar and shake his head and simply say: "That's a big damn dog" and nothing else. Still, he's very gentle for his size and we wouldn't have him any other way.

@BlackShadow: Thankyou :) It's our first, and we both grew up around animals. Me with horses and cats, hubby with dogs and cows and we have fond memories of being scratched/kicked/bitten on our journey to learning how to work with and around animals. I feel that a lot of kids really miss out on early action/consequence and responsibility lessons when they grow up without pets. One of the most important things we agreed upon was that we both wanted our child to be able to climb and fall out of trees, play in and be covered with mud, and run around barefoot in rain puddles.

I wanna see!!!

Ugh I am a member on another board that has an ego maniac that had to have a corso, despite when asking all these questions and getting sound advise... he got the dog anyway, for dirt cheap because he didn't want to pay for it, then keeps it in the crate for 10 to 14 hours a day, has no time to exercise it, feeding it science diet and prounces it Cane (as in sugar cane) corso because when he was corrected on another website he asked his "breeder" and the breeder said no it was prounced like hurricane and the other people were wrong.

I have had to hold myself back a lot on those particular posts but if anyone wants to read them let me know and I will post the link so you can all see how well I have been behaving ;) :p

What is wrong with people? Research, months and months of research before my husband and I got our EM. Finding a vet in our area willing to deal with giant breed, looking into every possible health problem and deciding if we were willing to deal with the heartache those problems can bring, going and meeting other large breed dogs (since there are no EM owners in our area). Researching all the goods and the not so goods. Realizing that we were willing to take the handful of negatives for the innumerable positives that a mastiff brings into our lives. It bothers me when people won't consider all the pros and cons to any pet.

I actually find most of their responses pretty mild compared to what he would get on an actual corso board. I don't disagree with most of the comments there and have had to refrain from posting a lot of what I would really like to say to this guy but in the end there isn't a lot that can be done, he has the dog and it is what it is... now it is the dog that will suffer :( His breeder is the problem and people like him :(

I apologize:cool: just that type of environment brought back "bad memories" ( especially since I regconize some of the names from other boards) so to speak the tone con vied sometimes comes off as "hostile" unfortunately it tends to do nothing but stir emotion. Thus leaving the true intention of valuable information lost. No matter what we say or do that person is going to what they want, we can try to offer helpful advice to make the situation better but in the end its their decision. I've seen so many new people run off past forums because people were so quick to jump on their back and down their throat. That leaves to question what they are doing now? They will return to "bad habits" because they weren't "properly" informed.

I get people similar to that guy that inquired about obtaining a breed like Thor, I also know a breeders that do nothing but produce pups for profits. It sickens me what's worse is that I know them "personally" its disgusting.......I just try to distance myself away from that as far as possible.

I don't agree with sugar coating things either however I belief its best to leave your emotions out it. As you mentioned in the end the one that truly suffers are the animals due to owner/breeder negligence :( However could we also add "ourselves" for failing to get the true message across?
