Reading lots of interesting posts on this forum about this topic.

My vet said anytime after 12 weeks was fine, glad I found all these varying opinions. I will read much more before deciding what to do with Fergus!

I'm going to suggest you hold off until 3 years, if possible. Some of the males are still developing long after 2 years old. Both Ruby & Sunny, from different lines, never bulked out until at least 3 years old.

Our vet said that we should wait until the male pup hits puberty, as the burst of testosterone closes the growth plates. Large breed dogs who are neutered before puberty have excessive bone growth leading to bone/joint issues later in life.the problem is you never rawly know when puberty has hit, it is not like they siddenly break out in pimples... Lol

The benefit of neutering a female early is to avoid uterine cancers or infections.

Our bullmastiff mix is six months.

I just wish the rescue who I adopted my pup from knew how to care for large/giant breeds!! My mastiff was neutered at 10 weeks by the rescue :( He's 7 months now, weighs 85lbs but still pees like a female, is long and gangly and has thin legs. Can't help but think it's due to him being a very early neuter.

Neutered at 10 weeks is absurd! Please tell the rescue to stop neutering dogs @ 10 weeks. He's only 7 months old, he will grow into those long and gangly thin legs. Mastiffs continue to grown until 2-3 years old. He may be smaller due to the early neutering.

My EM didn't lift his leg for the first time until he was 10 months and it wasn't until he was almost one before it became regular.
