When do they slow down?? Or do they??

My little boy Titan turned 18mths December 4th and I was just wondering when he will slow down and not be so hyper? I love his energy but it never stops!! I have to crate him at night so he won't jump on and off the bed the entire night...and during the day he is on and off the couch literally every few minutes. I bought them kong toys and stuffed treats in them hoping that would slow him down a little but he just takes it with him as he jumps on and off the couch. Corelina is 5yrs and she is very calm in the house and will not even jump on the couch or my bed, but has great energy when we play outside. Is this an age thing that he will grow out of or will he always be this hyper? Is he just being a puppy? Is this the terrible two's stage or is he past that?

Ahhhhh if only someone could truthfully answer that question lol.
Now if he is always going to be hyper will you still love him?
Of course you will!
Enjoy his puppy days while he still has them.

Sounds like he needs more exercise. Titan at 4 yrs old still gets his energy spurts but generally, he's a couch potato. After our parks walks, Titan comes back to the apartment and he has zoomies. I believe it's due to the cold weather, he appears to love the cold weather.

Of course I will always love him no matter how hyper he gets!! It's not just that he's hyper...it's that he's hyper 24-7!! I would like for him to lay down long enough for me to pet him sometimes...right now I can pet him while he's rubbing against my legs like a cat...he's so funny though!!

When I let them out in the mornings I usually play ball with them for about 30-45 minutes...sometimes 2 & 3 times a day. Even after I go inside I still see them playing and running around in their pen and its not a small pen either...its around 50x70 ft. I also take them out walking a few times a day. I guess I need to start running and take him with me, maybe that will help. Thanks MD!!

Hi , newbie here ! We adopted a 4 mth old neo mastiff,
Who has plenty of energy even in 32 degrees Celsius
Weather in Nth Qld Australia. We were told that being a
Strong leader and having patience ( waiting a bit longer for
Them to respond to commands) with them but be determined. We play tug of war with rope toy or long but I always
win, or husband or the kids . He's currently 6mths about 45-50kgs and is now well behaved . We crate him , but
Spend time next to it before leaving him
Overnight .( as he was eating furniture and trying
To play with our 6 yr old rescue Staffy .
I'd walk him morning and night , light jogging
And be firm that he isn't allowed on your bed unless you
ask him up . As we got Lez at 3 or 4 ish months
He had no training and was abused by previous owners.
We put a long leash ( soft rope type ) and if he tried to get up or run in the house we'd grab the rope and his collar put him back to a sit then stand there until he sighs and
Drops ! Good luck ! Love mastiff now ! He's a giant big lover boy !

That's a great idea, It can be one of their Christmas presents!! Your boys sure look like they're having fun!! Thanks Kris!!
I can't answer your question but I do know about tryiing to deplete energy. Ruger went through a stage where he would get serious enery going in the evening. I bought a flirt pole and he LOVES it. Magnum loves it now, too. It will wear them out!!! This is the one I bought http://www.amazon.com/Squishy-Face-Studio-Braided-Fleece/dp/B007O02C6Y

Thanks for the advice, I will try keeping him on a leash in the house and see how that goes. He is not going to be happy about it though!! LOL

We have a house rule of NO RUNNING... so when Denna gets the zoomies in the house, she gets directed outside pronto. Inside is only for relaxing and soft play. Having him on a leash inside and basically enforcing the 'relax inside' rule might help a lot.
Good luck!

Personally, I wouldn't go the "leash on in the house" rule at this point. It sounds to me that you have a super energized pup and just need to find some ways to wear him out and if that is the case, the leash in the house will be rather unfair and futile. For behavioral issues, I love the house leash but IMO you just need to get creative to wear Mr. Energy down a bit. :)

My first male Corso finally stopped acting like a kid and slowed down at 10 when he came down with Cancer. He got 3 mile a day walks, My current 2 year old Male has tons of energy and I hope he never slows down. Each is different. The 2 year old will run and play, go for walks, but once inside, he is terrific. The old one used to run in the house for a few minutes like he had a torch tied to his butt.

In my puppy obedience class, one owner of a Lab, asked what is the best way to tire out my dog so it will do less of what you are saying your Corso does to a factor of 10. He told her you can't. Even if you could, then your are just getting them in better shape, and more able to do what ever you did longer next time.
He then said something I found very interesting. "puppy push-ups." You need to mentally tire them out, not physically tire them out. For the lab, puppy-push ups is his recommendation. Sit, Down, Sit, Down..... over and over.
If your Corso is anything like mine, that only lasts so long. I have him stay. I hide prizes, and then have him find them. I practice new commands, and so on. I wish I had known this when I had Labs. I can see it in Leo. His mind reaches a limit, and then he just wants to crash. Usually about 15 minutes of intense training. If I were outside running him, he could last an hour easy.

Thanks, if I made him go outside every time he ran, he would stay outside!! LOL I'm not gonna give up on his crazy butt though!!
