  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

When did you start leaving your mastiff alone, OUT of his/her kennel?

I left him out once with my Boston Terrier and he managed to chew a hole in the carpet. I left him out b/c I figured he would just snooze all day and stay relaxed since my BT is gone for the day and plus I wanted to see how he does. I have left alone for 3-4 hours while outside in the garage without issues. I left a couple toys out and a bully stick for him to chew on (he likes them). Anyways, this day can't get by fast enough so I can go home and check on him. Now for some reason I'm getting really worried.

Sorry, but for the first few times out BE WORRIED! :lolbangtable: He is going to get into trouble, I promise! But over time he will get better. Leave loads of toys not just one or two. I also recommend leaving out something he can distroy with permission like an empty box. We began leaving our boy out at 5 months for an hour or two here & there and gradually increased the amount of time, but he does not have a partner in crime! We also taught him Mine! Yours! so that he knew what he could touch and what he couldn't starting at an early age.

good ideas...I havent used the "mine" "yours" but it makes sense. Hopefully the couch is still intact when I get home, lol. I left two squeaky balls out (he'll squeak those things for hours), a chew and another toy. I know he can hold his pee until I get home, but I bet he pees somewhere too. As long he's OK is all I really care about though.

We started around 6/7 months, it's a good idea to keep their crate open so they can get in if they feel the need. For the first few weeks we would also leave a tv on low volume, seemed to calm him.

Started with 30 mins, us just being outside or running to the store then built up. We don't much leave him now tho..

Luna is almost 10 months and for the first time I left her out of the crate for about 5 min. the other day to take the girls to school. She did really well but now gives me a hard time going in the crate, just from 5 min. I still dont feel shes ready for a long period of time. Hopefully by the summer.

He did great yesterday, no accidents and he did not get into anything at all or destroy anything so I am very pleased! :) I do think he stayed a little calmer without my BT there as well as he can get pretty rambunctious when they are together. I'll try to let him out a 1-2 times a week and to let him get used to it.

I started leaving Gummy Bear out when he was about 7 or 8 months. Mostly because my lab was starting to try to break him out of his kennel. Honestly, I've been so very lucky. Unlike my lab who was a destructive [word redacted :)] he's been a dream (I couldn't kennel my lab because he was in a puppy mill for the first 1.5 years of his life and has terrible panic attacks when confined). He had like two accidents when I was gone a bit longer than I anticipated and the only thing he's ever destroyed was one pillow and I think that was on accident. He likes to shake pillows and that one just couldn't hold up. Gummy Bear is now 14 months and still a dream inside. Granted, I work at home so he's only alone when I'm out at the shops, pub or the like. I recently had to go out of town and the pet sitter couldn't do over nights. They got to go for walkies 3-4 times a day and they still managed to not destroy anything. I was rather pleased. I might actually have the best mastiff puppy ever.
