What made you choose a Cane Corso?

Just curious, but what made everyone here ultimately choose to get a Cane Corso?
As for myself, I love all the mastiff breeds but have wanted a Cane Corso for a very long while. The timing was finally right and I went with it. A little over a couple months later and I don't regret it one bit.
Of course I had a bit of an idea what to expect having owned large breeds before.

I wanted something large and strong and smart and discriminating. Mine is used as a service dog and general household companionship and protection. I am alone alot and have MS. She is beautiful. loyal, compassionate, protective, sturdy and loves to play still. She is from excellent lines and has an excellent temprament and is welcome pretty much everywhere. I never used to be dependent on anything other than myself, but now I am and I am glad it's her!

Had rotties and wanted something a little more protective, saw a picture of the corso and the sheer majestic beauty and regalness and it captured my attention without too much effort. After that meeting them in person at my breeders just sealed the deal for me and I haven't looked back.

I acquired my CC without even looking for a dog. It was Fate. Seriously. The stars aligned, and he just fell into my lap, as they say, and I have never regretted the decision to take him. Upon extensive research about this particular breed, I realized that this is exactly the type of dog that would be perfect for me to own. And I've been in love with this breed ever since. I doubt that I will ever own any other type of dog... Although, I will admit that for me dealing with my CC has been a steep learning curve, and at times he is a challenge BUT I wouldn't have it any other way. And thankfully I have this forum for support. Thank you all. :)

Now, in a sense I agree with Cesar Millan (all personal opinions about him aside, please and thank you) that "you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you need."

I found this quote, somewhere on the internet, (I don't remember where exactly), that I personally feel describes my relationship with Luther: "The Cane Corso possesses a spirit that is shrouded in mystic, which to the delight of true enthusiasts, seems always to be just out of reach." ;)

Not to mention that these dogs are striking looking, so majestic and regal. I still remember the first time I saw one in person, I was in awe of him. And I still am.

Funnily enough I was looking online at the rottweiler temprement and ut came uo with 'dogs similar' fell in love with the photo and as soon as I began reading I was hooked. Everything the breed is, is what I wanted. So then I went into crazy research mode, even the history captured me, over here they are quite rare, so was happy to have something a bit unique as well. Found the perfect breeder and got zeus... everything happens for a reason :)

We wanted a dog that was intelligent enough to distinguish a threat from a non-threat. We live in a city. We needed a dog we could walk down the street without him attacking everything he seen, but was also very protective of our home and property. There are many guardian dog breeds but we wanted a SMART dog. We didn't want a exceptionally large breed either; the corsos are a bit smaller, when compared to the other mastiffs anyways :D Odin is really coming in to his personality now and I think we picked a great dog, he is fitting what we needed perfectly. When we have friends or family over he terrifies them lol, but he quickly accepts them when we let him know he has nothing to worry about. It's funny, he won't bark at the mail man when he delivers a package if he is standing outside with the door open, but if he sets foot in the house to set it down Odin loses it lol. He is still learning of course but is already doing awesome with his job. Someone tried busting in to my yard just a few weeks ago while I was home. It was Odin who heard it, let me know quite loudly, and ultimately saved us from losing whatever they were after in my shed. We have also had several break-ins in nearby businesses so I am really glad we have him. I am here alone a lot and it gives me peace of mind to know most won't even risk coming in just hearing his overpowering bark!

I had been thinking about getting a bigger dog but wasn't sure what breed I wanted...saw an ad in the paper for a Cane Corso for adoption and I had never heard of this breed before so I did a little research and talked with the breeder a few times. I met Corelina a few days later and fell in love with her. The breeder told me to think about it for a few days to be sure I wanted her but I couldn't wait...I called him the next day and told him I was 100% sure!! I couldn't be happier with her or my lil boy Titan!! This is an awesome breed and I don't think I would ever own another breed.

research, research, research... and lots of patient breeders and friends familiar with the breed. The more I heard the more I wanted, and here we are .. a previously dedicated GSD owner with an adorable CC puppy!

I had a checklist: Intelligent, good with kids, takes to training, large size, low shedding, protective, and pretty much in that order. There are not too many dogs that check all those off. Researched breeders and met with the best I could find, met as many in the family line as possible to get a sense of temperament and timed it to my needs. Definitely not a both feet in decision but one that worked out great.
