What is the purpose of your Cane Corso

I was just wondering what is the purpose of your Dog.
Did you buy it to show, work, protection, breeding, pet/companion?
We got Zoey as a companion dog, a protector of the house and yard, and because we wanted a Diva to spoil, we will be picking up our 2nd Diva next weekend, Abby will be for the same general guilty pleasures as Zoey is.

What about ya'll

We got Carma for all the same reasons. Jury still out on the breeding. My breeder wants to use her for breeding but I don't know. Biggest reason would be protection. I work late at night, and Carma holds down the fort. Her being home with my wife and kids puts my mind just a little more at ease.

Hmmm tough question. I got my first CC as it is a breed I have coveted since I first saw one 1996. She was just to be a pet and companion, no job set in mind. When I got Aurora I had done way more research into lines, type and what I was looking for in a CC. At that time I wanted a CC that I could try French Ring with, as well as show and do therapy work. However, I ran a day home out of my home and a high drive CC was probably not the best suited dog for me at the time :) . Aurora's breeder, who was also a mentor and now a very close friend asked if we would be interested in her, lmao. He already knew the answer as I had been harassing him about his pups since the get go. Black Jack I brought here to show, and be a family member. We finished his Canadian Kennel Club Championship in 3 shows here, and decided to try our hand at something else. Since we have started agility however that has become my focus. My next CC will be more oriented towards agility as a primary and showing secondary. That said ALL of our dogs are beloved family members first and foremost, all the other stuff is fun and an added advantage :) And ya, the fact that they keep the Jehovah's and Mormon's from knocking at our door is a plus as well.

LMAO...that is an added plus around here too! We got Crickett as a pet and as a protector. We realized that she has a ton of drive so we began doing Lure Coursing with her and she rocks at it. She received her first Coursing Ability Title this past weekend. But overall she is a treasured part of out family and we simply could not imagine not having her as our heart dog :)

I did an online quiz to find the dog breed apparently best suited to me. Corso came up first, and I'd never heard of the breed so I did some research and met a few. I was looking for a protector and companion who wouldn't wander

I've owned dogs most of my life but never a purebred, and never one so large. Everyone from the breeder to the vet was insistent that I train and socialise him because the stigma attached to big dogs meant he needed the protection of good manners. I figured there might just be something in that, so I did

Every bit of work and time I have put into him has paid off, he is a beautiful, funny, cruisy, loving and smart dog and I adore him. And every day I want to be a great owner so he has a beautiful life

Mind you, if you asked him, his purpose in life is to wake me up early so we can go for walks down the creek, chase magpies, make new friends and hog the couch out the front when i am asleep

And so far he hasn't wandered

I wanted to add something a couple things. I noticed a handful of comments stating, many people are getting CC, like it's CC season, lol. Since this thread is " the purpose of CC" figured explaining the purpose/ why. We researched mastiffs for a few months prior to finally going with the CC. Someone we knew suggested it. I agree there are some people that maybe infected with the fever and for their own fever delusional reasons get a CC. We are noobs and now after all the reading we may have gotten a CC from someone who had a pair and just did their own breeding. We werent planning on adding a new member to our family for another 5-6 mths but he is here now. We initially thought the family chose him, but he chose us and for some reason he is with us now. My 2 cents is that maybe the popular points picked up because many people who have owned them have recommended or maybe people who have come across those awesome well behaved CC and the bond with their owners. That is not to say, like with everything there is a downside, the folks that have superficial and shallow intentions.

@ Happyhound, i never knew there was a quiz. I always loved watching the gentle giants. I just did not want to randomly select the breed. I quizzed myself in a way. lol process of elimination with traits, difficulty of training, interaction with other pets. It started with about 8-9 breeds and slowly narrowed down the gap.

Sophie, or Sofa Bear as we also call her (guess why?) was originally going to be a companion dog. As a youngster, our family raised Irish Wolfhounds and German Shepherds, so a big dog was what I wanted. Then I discovered a health concern that sidelined me for a bit, and changed my lifestyle tremendously. Alone frequently, I realized that the two Boston terriers I share my home with would not provide the level of protection as well as companionship I would now need, I began researching the various large dog breeds. No Shepherds, too hot and too much hair, and no wolfies, same reasons, so started asking around. My Godfather is a veterinarian who also raises shepherds, and hearing my particular situation, recommended I look into Corsos. I researched the breed thoroughly, and the bloodlines, and began a search for a breeder. A year or so later, here's Sophie! She is a delight and infectiously loving. She is what awakens me in the morning (feet and face on the bed) and naps with me midday. I have been doing her training and even at 4.5 months of age, I am sure she could pass her CGC now, though I will wait a couple of months and let her mature a bit. She LOVES her work learning to be a super service dog, and everyone in the park knows her name. People want to know what she is, and in exchange, I ask that they say hi to her when they see her. She thinks everyone in the world knows her name! Last time I took her into town, a man in a truck rolled down his window and yelled Hi Sophie and it took me a minute to recognize him but she knew that voice straight away! So the short answer is she was originally intended to be a companion, but that expectation has grown to include service dog. I don't need to mention the guardian aspect because that comes in the genetics. She is the first face I see in the morning, and her night time Zoomies make me laugh. Best dog EVER!
