I know there are a million different ways out there to help ease arthritis pain, but I was wondering what people have found to be the most effective for them? This is for one of my non-mastiffs, my 10 year old pit bull Mazey. The arthritis in one of her front legs has really started to bother her lately. She's already at an ideal, lean weight, and we walk regularly (at least 5 days a week). She's been on Dasuquin and an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for years. She is also now on Adequan injections twice a week. Those have helped significantly, but at over twenty bucks per injection, I'd like to get her maintenance doses as far apart as possible. Occasionally she'll have a particularly bad day, and I'll have to give her an NSAID because I can't stand to see her uncomfortable. She's already had a spontaneous GI bleed unrelated to any medications, so I feel like she may be at increased risk for NSAID related GI ulceration. So although I give misoprostol with the NSAID, ideally I'd like to get to the point with alternative therapies that I don't have to give her an NSAID ever. Although no studies have been done in dogs, I've read some good studies about using SAMe in multimodal arthritis treatment in humans, so I will soon be adding that to her supplements. Has anyone had great success with acupuncture, physical therapy, cold laser treatments, or anything like that? I'm particularly interested in any types of physical therapy or range of motion exercises that have helped. Thanks in advance from me and my sweet girl!
