What do you think, Presa Canario or Cane Corso mix?

Boss was pulled from a local animal control. I think he's a pit bull/mastiff mix. At first I thought Presa Canario, but the more research I do, the more I think Cane Corso. It seems to be a growing trend in Atlanta to breed pit bulls with mastiff breeds. He's being fostered at my home while he recovers from heartworms. He insist on being by my side or my husband's side at all times. He's very affectionate and sweet. He's much larger than your average pit bull, he's built different to with longer legs. Let me know what you think? :)

He has some distinct characteristics of a pit bull that a cane corso doesnt have...how much does he weigh?

Yes I would bet a pit bull mixed with a mastiff breed....he is just missing the characteristic wide muzzle of the corso, but he couldve just inherited a pit bull face...but he is beautiful!!! :) Does he have his tail?

He's not a Presa for sure, the head is totally wrong for a Presa, looks like a lot of Cane Corso with a smaller breed such as a pit bull.

I have seen a HUGE difference in temperaments; MOST OF THE CORSOS I HAVE SEEN (not saying all; only the ones I have seen) have more of a suspicious temperament; less stable and more fear biting tendencies. Years ago they were very similar looking to Presas; in fact often we had to look at the tail to see if it was a Corso or Presa. Now they are breeding them with muzzles so short (I heard Boxer was added in) their heads look totally different. As with any breed; especially guardian I would be sure to check out the parent's temperament if I was interested in one. I only knew of one breeder that I would consider if I was looking for one and unfortunately I don't think they are breeding anymore. Now that they are accepted by AKC I expect temperaments will get worse and not better.

Wow Brite007 that is a huge generalization about Corso.
The difference in temperament, like in any breed is dependent on the quality of the breeder. There are MANY great breeders out there, who are focusing on the breed and their love for it.
BYB's are pumping out these dogs, like all rare breeds, without a thought or care to proper temperament, structure and health. They are expensive dogs so is a way to make some cash.
A properly bred Corso from a reputable breeder is an amazing dog. They should NOT be shy or skittish, but aloof and indifferent to strangers.
They are not a lab, they do not love everyone, nor should they.
The traditional Corso head, ie- using Basir as the role model for the standard has a muzzle that should be 1/3rd of the total head. That is a fairly short muzzle. I am not saying that in the reconstruction of the breed Boxer, Bull Mastiff, Rottie and Neo's weren't thrown in along the way in some lines.
But if you look at SOME breeders in Italy that stuck to the traditional dogs, not breeding to win ribbons in shows, you will see that the "rustic" heads are quite different to the majority of dogs in both American lines and many of those lines over seas. There are breeders here as well, who are returning to the true type of Corso. Hell, go back to the 60's and look at the Corso and Neo and see if you can see the difference. :) Unfortunately IMO, both sides went to extremes to differentiate the two.

In my opinion, THIS is what a Corso should look and act like.
I have had an unstable Corso, bred by a crappy breeder and I can tell you there is a world of difference.
Sorry for the hijack
I woud guess the pup is a Pit x Corso as well.
I hope you find it a great home.

I love this boy, I saw him listed on Petfinder, is he still looking for his forever home? He just looks like a beautiful soul and looks very laid back.

What is he like with other dogs?

I would actually say Presa/pit mix, he does have some of the presa features. Is his back-end higher than his shoulders? That's a pretty good give away.

He has neither. He's pure byb blue pit.

He could be a Bandogge (pit/neo mix)

Bandogges can be any number of bull breed x mastiff not just pit x neo. True bandogges are only bred for working purposes.

He looks nothing like a presa. He's an "american bully" which is a mutted up pit. That blue color is a dead giveaway.
