what do you feed?

We currently have 3 corsos (11 mos and 5 mos brother/sister) with the intention of adding another in the future... None the less, I have been feeding Diamond large breed puppy to the younger 2 and Diamond sporting dog (high energy?) To the older female. The older girl seems to do pretty good on it but were on our 2nd bag of the puppy and while they're gaining weight, they never seem to have a solid bowel movement. Not watery, diarreah like but just not solid. More so soft ice cream like movements (sorry for the graphicness) so I'm curious what would be better to switch them too. I'm not opposed to switching them all to the same food as no food seems to impact the older girl. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be the grains and chicken in the food causing the issue. Do the 5 mos old pups scratch a lot? Do they have bumps?

Mastiffs generally do better on chicken and grain free food. All of your pups can eat large breed adult food.

hey amw, wow raising 3! that is amazing, altho I have 3 also but i can't imagine having 3 puppies! lol. This question i've asked myself, I found the easiest way is to come on and look at what ppl suggest. Usually I go to the search bar and type words like (cance corso, food) since many people have asked, we want to make sure we're making the right, best choices. So after I check for some of what other people are using, I go to the website musicdeb provide in the previous post and look for the rating AND comments at website might have product, after that I run it by the vet to get his thoughts (for the vet part it is relevant if the vet is familiar with the breed or has been consistent vet) this is just my opinion about the vet part, previously I a couple of bad vet experience lack of their knowledge of the breed.

You know no matter what anyone says what is good for one babies may affect another one differently. I recently switched to a another brand and meat, protein ingredient because he is older. I check thru the ingredients also. Below I put what I use with mine. Good luck! :)

Started: Natural Balance-venison and sweet potato
Now: Wellness Core Wild Game Formula

IMO, vets only push food they are paid by the dog food company to push. They are not trained in dog nutrition. IMO, do your own research and go with your gut with what is right for the dog and right for your budget.

Wellness Core is a great food.

yes true in many cases, I jumped around to a handful of vets in the beginning because of non sense. One told me special diet is GREAT for cc, lol. I really like the vet I have now, I have to go to a different county but he was the only one that didn't act like a sales rep. This is the first vet I personally visited with that reminds me of a human doc. The experience is not like a drive thru. The place I take him has seminars and support groups, they even have a support group for when your pet dies. That is a really good point musicdeb @ "go with your gut" truth!

It's great you have a vet that understands nutrition and provides so much support to the families. Kudos!

I myself have personally had a great experience with Acana Grassland Grain Free. It is Chicken free as well as they use Duck, lamb and fish. This is a Canadian made food and I am unsure if it sells in the U.S. They also have the frequent buyers program in which you save the UPC and Reciepts and after you buy 12 bags you 13th is free which you really can't go wrong as anyone with a Mastiff knows how much food you go through lol.

Acana also has many other flavors/formulas to choose from.

I am a huge fan of the Earthborn line. You can often find it at your famr and feed stores. Tractor supply co carries it as well. It is about 50 per bag which puts it high mid range as far as price goes.

Thanks guys, will be taking that all into consideration! As for rash/itching... Nothing just would like to see a more firm BM for them. Our staffy used to eat taste of the wild (the fish one) but now is on a senior food, though it was good and I may consider going back to that.

Soft-serve stools could be a food sensitivity (chicken and grains being the most likely culprits) - or it might just be over-eating, too.

You can easily see if just serving smaller portions firms things up.

And I agree with the "go with your gut" option, too. Dogs are all individuals, so what works for one doesn't work for all... and vice-versa. :)

My 13 month old CC cannot tolerate the grain free foods. It gives her horrible diarrhea. We feed her whole earth farms by Merrick as the dry and top it with spots stew canned food made by Halo. She really seems to enjoy that and her stools look better than they ever have.

Acana/Orijen is my top choice. Acana more so because of the price.
No eye gunk with both Acana or Orijen unlike the other brands.
