What do you all think about the American bully?

I know this is a mastiff breed forum. I'm not going to get this breed especially not now, as there is a Ban on Pits here, but the american bulldog is a dog i'm experienced with and would consider getting they are completely allowed within city limits.

Here's a American bully pitbull ( Not the fat type this is a classic type Pitbull ) I know this is a mastiff forum but i just wanted to know if anyone had experience with this breed, i hear they are mutts, Bully mixes, and not worth it. But they seem like very nice dog's. The American bulldog has been a breed i've been experienced with, but the Bullies seem like beautiful dog's but i haven't ever seen one in person around.

Taisa899 that was what i was planning on doing, there's no regulation here really, unless some reports you. I don't want to do it though its dangerous. Maybe someday BSL will stop. Which one are you talking about the bully, or the american bulldog?

I personally like the old southern whites (now) but but if you really like the style of the bully but without the bullsh!t get yourself a decent staffy. great dogs without all the garbage and issues that the "bullys" have.. I was around when original dogs from gottiline came out.. notorious Juan Gotty... there is just no way their dogs look the way they look from the stock they claim it comes from.. many have admitted putting some english bulldog in there and others have admitted putting french bulldogs in there... lots and lots of health problems.. go with the staffy or go crazy and get yourself a good performance bulldog.

American Bully is a junk mutt breed period. They are not functional and have little to no drive. The people that breed these dogs only care about the appearance and that's it. If you want a lazy dog that will do nothing and have many health issue then the American Bully is the breed for you. You can find tons of breeder all over the USA breeding these little hippos. Just get a real APBT from a working line and call it a day.

I like the Scott type American Bulldogs with the longer muzzle. The Scott type resemble a large APBT. The Johnson Line has a shorter snout and look more like a tall English Bulldog. The Johnson line has poor breathing compared to the Scott type, due to it's short muzzle

That's the problem, city wide ban on Pitbulls, staffs, am staff terriers.

I think the first 3 are pretty nice. If i were to go with a bulldog, i would choose the Johnson line, purely for size. What always makes me laugh is when i ask some people, they always go "German shepherd, strongest dog ever", me :D lololol
Anyway i think the classic bullies, such as on unleashedkennelz.com don't look like little hippos but big studs.
Look at that website these are amazing. Especially the 100lb female pitbulls.

Some Bully look better than others but can't hold a candle to a good APBT from a bloodline like Eli. You should never buy a dog based on looks alone.

There is no such thing as an 100lb APBT?

My understanding of this breed is that they have a lot of health problems due to poor breeding. Also they are very high energy and can be prone to dog on dog aggression. They are a breed that needs constant physical and mental stimulation otherwise there could be problems.

I agree Zebo, i've seen the breed for some time they look pretty amazing, seems like they are healthy, but who would i know. I was told they are breeding out the dog aggression, that's why at Bully show's these dog's often get along great with each other. The Site i posted, has some very nice females.

The dog aggression isn't that bad, from what i have seen. But yeah i agree on the stimulation, but they seem like a pretty easy going breed, but yeah they also seem very high energy. I'd compare them to a American bulldog much more than a pitbull.

I live in Australia, where american staffies are welcome. Popular family dogs.
They have many similarities in temperment to a mastiff, the loyal family dog, that is great with kids. The couch potatoe. The food driven slobber monster. They snore, sound like a mastiff etc.
That's about it.
They also have a different mode of operation.
They are intellegent, need a good leader to train them, not a first owner dog!
They are great at training in drive, and are lit up.
Fantastic at schuthund etc

So couch potatoe crossed rottie type.
Dont exercise and train them well and you get
a house eating monster, who will take over and rule the place and owners.

A friend of mine has a staff and it needs a huge amount of exercise, high energy exercise and constant mental stimulation. this is a terrier strain and meant for work and a job to do. if you get one with high drive and you cant meet the needs you are asking for trouble.

Yeah your right, but the american bully is not as energetic and has a lower energy level from what i have heard. Staffs are banned here unfortunately, else that would be my second dog, their look alone get's me!

I wouldn't be so sure about that. there is a female that lives near me and she is wired for sound and hard to control! no thank you!!

They can be, i heard they are crosses of mastiffs, pitbulls, bulldogs. I don't think they'd be any harder to handle than an american bulldog. I have experience with the am bulldog, and now that dog is tough, pulls real hard, and needs a lot of exercise. I love that breed maybe sometime when i'm ready and have the funds for a second dog, i'll move out of the city and either get a staff, or stay and get an am bull. But the American bullies really amaze me by their muscle tone, they aren't an official breed though. They have their own club, and are really different. They are breed distinctions some breeders breed for large bullies, some for smaller muscular ones, which seem to be the ones with the health problems. Some are about as tall as am staff and weigh 80lbs which is crazy. But all in all i'm talking about the pictures i posted in my first post on this thread.

Voidecho, these types of dogs don't really need additives to become muscular. Here is a pick of my Staffie and she was a couch dog. When I worked her at all she would puff up pretty fast. But she had a tumor in her bladder that took her from me. Fantastic dog to the end.
