  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

What breed is my dog mixed with?

847CB49E-BCEE-46DA-B2FC-614487C90E01.jpeg B02A99C0-F7FE-4DDF-9D91-0271FC586969.jpeg hi,

We bought a dog advertised as a Bullmastiff in January. We are no experts in dog breeds, but we knew just by looking at him that he was not a full Bullmastiff due to his colour. We just fell in love with him straight away and needed him in our home.

I am just curious to find out what breed he is mixed with. When he picked him up we met the mother who was a brindle Bullmastiff, but we could not meet the father as he belonged to the breeders brother and was not there at the time. We were showed pictures and he looked to be a brindle Bullmastiff as well. The breeder is adamant that he is a full Bullmastiff, but we do not believe him.

We’ve ordered a breed identification kit from Wisdom Panel already, but it will be at least 4 weeks until we get the kit, post it back and then receive the results.

I am just wondering if anyone can help identify exactly what breed he is as I think it would help us to make sure we are giving him the correct diet, exercise and training.

We were thinking maybe mixed with a chocolate lab, although pictures online we’ve found of mastiff x labs do not look quite like him.

Thank you

William H. Smith

Wow, that is a tough question....like does the baby look more like "mom or dad?" I guess you will just have to enjoy your cutie pie dog as he is and not worry about the breed. I like the way he looks thoughtful and affectionate...what a nice combination. Have a great day.Chevers.jpg

I don't see any Bullmastiff in that pup, to be honest. I look forward to seeing the results of your DNA test. Please make sure to post them. Whatever he is, he's a very handsome little guy.

The DNA test you ordered is the ONLY way to know. Anything else is just a pure guess. I wouldn't listen to those, could be very misleading.

Did he have papers?

Good looking dog none the less. But definitely not a full Bullmastiff. I have some guesses though.

Would love to see the results when you get them.

I think he looks alot like an APBT. I dont think he has any bullmastiff in him but I could be wrong.

He's 100% adorable!

I'd guess a red nose pitty (APBT) snuck in there when someone had their back turned.

Did you see the other puppies in the litter? I wonder if they had multiple dads...

He is super cute but honestly the genetic tests can surprise you every time and appearances don't really tell the story with mix breeds. I doubt anyone would guess my Diesel is 1/2 DDB. But, I saw both parents and did genetic testing. With his genetic testing the big surprise was that he had some boxer in his other half. I never would have guessed that in a million years. :)

Please share your results when they come in and lots of pictures and stories also.

We’ve had our DNA test arrive yesterday. It’s been sent off today. Hopefully should have the results in a month.

We saw the mother who was definitely a Bullmastiff. The other pups that we saw were all different colours. One black, one brindle, and the last of the boys was fawn, but didn’t have the black mask.

Does anyone know the UK laws about Pitbull crosses just in case he does that that in him? As far as I’m aware they’re a banned breed here, so that’s a bit concerning. He’s such a softie if a dog though.

Yes they are a banned breed over here in the uk, have you got the advert saved to what the pup was advertised as. Keep it saved. If the police think its a pit you have to register the dog as a banned breed in the dangerous dog act you will have to keep him on a lead at all times in public and muzzled, they will check your property is secure, iv seen dogs look more pit than your pup and they have never been reported so fingers crossed you wont. Have you got pics of the mum and dad. Im in the uk in lincolnshire . I dont think you will have any problems.

Sorry for the late reply. Hadn’t checked this in a few days.

I don’t have the advert saved, but we did keep the receipt which states bullmastiff. I’ve also got a lot of text messages between me and the breeder where I had questioned it with him.

The first picture attached is of the Mom which we met. The second we were told is of the dad, but to me this looks like it could just be the same dog from a different angle.

We’ve been looking through some mixed breeds though the wisdom panel “Dog Park” and I’m quietly confident that he’s a bullmastiff crossed with a Labrador (or as some people call it, a Bullmasador) we’ll see in a few weeks what comes back. I couldn’t care less what breed he is as we love him to bits, but I’m still so excited to get the results.

Yes it could be the same dog in the pic. Just keep all the messages ang the address you got the pup from i think you will be fine,

We just had the results back.

Turns out he’s the following;

25% Staffordshire Bull Terrier
12.5% American Staffordshire Terrier (pitbull?)
12.5% Bullmastiff
12.5% Mastiff
12.5% Dogue de Bordeaux
12.5% American Bulldog
12.5% Rottweiler

I wasn’t expecting that much to be in him. I was expecting Labrador to be in there somewhere but I guess not. Haha.

Wow thats some mix, just proves how dishonest some people are when selling pups, your pup looks really nice its nowhere near looking like a pitbull tyoe so youll have no problems im sure, nothing wrong with pits anyway

As he’s getting older his face is changing loads. His colour is also getting a lot darker day by day. We still love him to bits regardless of what breed he is. I’m just not sure if it’s worth fighting to get some of the money I paid back.. from a quick search staffy crosses cost around £250 and we paid £595.

He has changed quite a bit. He is good looking guy! As for recovering some of the money, do you think the breeder would recompense you with the proof you have? Or would you have to take them to small claims court? If it's a banned breed, might not want to draw attention to that.

You could try, tell them what the dna results state, you could say you could report them for breeding a banned breed, which i know you wouldnt do that, let ne know how you get on
