What breed has been the most vicious/aggresive?

In your experience with Mastiff-type dogs, what breed has been the most vicious/aggressive?

I detest dog fighting but love dog fighting breeds because you channel that breed aggression for better things like therapy/service dogs.

This, right there, makes me worried. You do not channel aggression, you channel drive, intelligence, and energy into working dogs. Actually, aggressive dogs are often cut from therapy/service training as the aggression makes them unreliable. The last thing you want is for the dog to see another dog, freak out and drag his poor, blind owner through traffic to get at the dog. Also, hate it when people say dog fighting breeds.

If you are looking for a truly aggressive dog...get a Chihuahua. Those things can be demon dogs.

EM, they have been known to crush their victims to death by attempting to sit in their owners lap. I also read that their drool is quite hazardous is often compared to falling in the bathroom. They also have deadly gases that can come without warning.

One make take precautions when dealing with these beasts. I hear these dogs are so extreme they require a special licences to own. :eek:mg:

I haven't liked Chihuahuas since I was a kid. We had one in our neighborhood who was owned by a nice First Nations family. Her daughter was a good friend but the dog was not. Actually, they would take him with them when they were hauling in the nets and he would eat fish guts. Then he would come back, completely covered in fish gore, and run up and down the street growling and snarling at the kids.

It was always freaky seeing him when I was alone. No one would be around and I would turn a corner and find this blood stained dog standing in front of me giving me the evil eye. Then his white teeth would start showing and he would lunge.

Funny though, he would be the sweetest thing if I saw him at his home after a bath. I think the fish guts made him crazy. LOL.

I don't know about vicious or aggressive. But I was recently looking at pictures of Dogo's and I don't know what it is but when I see them they give me chills. I met one recently and it felt like the dog was looking into my soul.... there was just an intensity in its gaze. The thing was friendly though and well trained.

I'm curious why people have such a negative knee jerk reaction to the word "aggression"?

Without aggression man of the Mastiff breeds would be unable to perform the job they are designed to do. Aggression is an important key ingredient in the make up of most of the mastiff breeds.

Frankly its what separates them from the bluffing watchdogs and such.

Throughout history mastiffs and bulldogs have lived in the dark underbelly of dogdom and performed the dirty, dangerous, and extreme jobs other breeds could not. They would never be able to do these tasks without unadulterated aggression.

I have a problem with it in the way the OP here used it. Cause you don't "channel aggression to make a dog a good service/therapy dog".

I don't. There is aggression and then there is aggression. That makes a lot of sense. My problem wasn't the comment of using an aggressive dog as a therapy/service dog. Aggression does have its uses ie. guarding but many types if service work isn't one of them. That being said, it can work for some types of service where you don't want the dog to lose his nerve.

I meant "you can channel" for the therapy/service dogs part. Heck, look at APBT, likely the most legally restricted breed in the world, yet they can great service/therapy dogs.

APBT is the most misunderstood breed in the world. They are actually very intelligent and caring animals. Improper breeding for aggression has caused the problem with the breed. I used to sleep with four Staffies whenever I went to my brothers' house. The dogs were amazing.

Any dog can be aggressive. I have an APBT she's an angel. My friend has a taco bell dog (not attempting to spell it out) and a Boston terrier that are the 2 meanest dogs I've seen. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. My aunt runs a kennel you wouldn't believe the types of dogs I've seen that are the most aggressive.
