I was wondering did anyone of you let your dog to sleep in the bed with you since he or she was little? My fiance and i did let tonka sleep with us in the bed almost from the start so she got used to it so did we. Now everything is fine she sleeps next to me sometimes on my pillow as it was hers ,we also play on that bed because its big, so i am thinking what will be when she grows up? Will she be able to get use to sleep on her bed on the floor through the night ,did any of you had this situation? I think i said it right we have created a cudly little(not so long) monster :)

My friend, LOL!!!

You know the #1 DOG RULE.....
Never let your dog do anything as a puppy, that you don't want them doing as an adult!!!!

If Tonka got used to sleeping on the bed, then you will have a bit of a battle teaching her that it's no longer allowed.

I would start sooner rather than later, easier at 5 or 6 months, than with a full grown dog.

Leash around neck, pull dog off bed, with a firm : "Tonka, OFF!!!"
When she tries to get on the bed, a very firm: "Tonka, NO!!!" This will have to be repeated a million and a half times, with a treat being offered whenever she listens.

She will cry, she will nag, she will beg, she will bark, and she will even growl at you, but you have to be more stubborn than she is.

Lie with her on HER bed, play with her on HER bed, offer treats on HER bed. Make her bed the best place in the world.

You have to realize though, that either you allow it, or you don't. You can't have it both ways, as it's simply too confusing for her. If you want her off the bed, you must never allow her on the bed again.

Thanks for advice, but problem isnt about her claming our bed, through the day she sleeps on her bed but when nights comes she wants to go up on and sleep with us. When i dont let her she tries few times and then gives up and falls a sleep on her bed. But then in the middle of the night when we are sleeping she comes slowly like a little thief and crawls on bed by our or mostly my side. So its 3 am morning and i am to tired to wrestle with her so i let her sleep with us that few hours when we need to go to work. She doesnt understand command off when she is on bed but she does undertand command not to go on bed when she wants to and i dont let her. My little monster :)

We let Wilson sleep on the bed with us when he was a puppy and have never stopped him as he has grown up. Although he knows the 'off' command we very rarely have to use it. He still gets up on the bed with us for a bedtime cuddle but always gets off by himself. I think he finds it uncomfortable after a while as he likes to sleep stretched out so goes to the sofa or his bed instead.

Depends how much of a problem it is and if you want to wait or not. If it's a problem now then either stop her from getting up or try letting her up for a cuddle but making her get off when you for example turn the bedside lamp off. Another way is to train her that she can only get up after you have invited her up.

Well, good luck with the 3am visits :)

If you're ok with it, then by all means.....

Personally I have taught Charlie, that I have my bed, and he has his bed (?)
My little Katy, sleeps with me, but Danny and Charlie don't.

Danny has never shown any interest in people beds, and Charlie, has had to be told on a few occasions when he had placed a paw on my bed, that NO! This is not allowed.

thanks for advice, now it isnt a problem it all works well but i dont know what the future holds :) from the day one we never let her on the bed without us inviting her i am very strict regarding that things she must earn everything. I had a male who i didnt let sleep with me on the bed, but he did liked to sleep on the couch through the day and while he was growing he has simply grown out of it and stoped by himself going on the couch. But sleeping by my side on the our sleeping bed is something different i think so we shall see what will be especially as the summer is coming and hot temperatures :)

We're getting another Mastiff pup soon. Can't wait to see how that goes. Although Pippa just recently started sleeping in my bed. She slept in her kennel with door open , her choice, until my bed broke and ended up on floor. When I replaced bed, she couldn't get up on it, too high, so I put a trunk at the end and she uses it as stepstool. She's never slept better! On her thick memory foam on floor, she was up and down all night. But on my Tempurpedic, she sleeps through night. It's a trade off.

So how many Mastiffs does it take to break the bed ? ;)

As to how Pippa sleeps in the middle of the bed...
That's exactly how little Katy sleeps, lol.

When I wake up in the morning, she's stretched out across the middle of the bed, while I'm clinging tooth and claw to the very edge of the end of the bed. She has the blanket all arranged into a nice nest, while I'm lucky if I have a small corner of the sheet.

Danny and Charlie however, are quit happy on their own beds.View attachment 58774 View attachment 58774 View attachment 58774 20161128_202447.jpg

My husband said, NO, I said, Maybe...and she was in like flint. When they are small, there is enough room for everyone. And the small ones are so-o-o sweet, I couldn't resist. Now, I have to fight every night for enough room to roll over. My husband has been banished to the spare room (he snores worse than her) because she would brace herself on me and push him out of the bed. Now, she lies right along my legs and hip and she stretches and digs in with her paws, edging me ever closer to the edge. I HAVE TO USE MY MOM VOICE: "MOVE!" Reluctantly, she does and I grab as much territory as I can while I can. Inevitably, she stretches herself along a diagonal forcing me to lie at an odd angle. Grrr!, if I didn't love her so much.......

Poor hubby...

At least Pippa, is a big girl, which explains how she manages to push people over......but how do you explain my 19lb tiny dancer, managing to shove me over to the very end of the bed while I sleep (?) :D

LOL this is so funny.... Its quite nice to find out we are not the only ones with this problem. We do love a nice snuggle with Daisy in bed while watching TV but there is just not enough room for all three of us to have a decent night's sleep. So I have to put Daisy into her own bed before I can go to bed. WP_20161024_008.jpg WP_20160622_002.jpg WP_20160427_004.jpg
