I have been working with Elvis on behavior at home and then behavior when we are not home. Today, we took him to the lily pond to get out excess energy. Once we had calmed down, we then took him to the fair grounds. My point in this was that I wanted to see how he reacted to a whole bunch of people. I have had friends come to the house and then we go visit with them to work on his "people skills." He did great. For the most part he ignored all of the people, was a little worried about the robots and people on stilts, although he did exactly as I hoped, he looked to me for guidance on how to respond. After about 10 minutes absolutely nothing fazed him. We stayed for about thirty minutes. When we got ready to leave, of course the sheriff wanted to make sure he was completely legal, which he is. The amazing part was when the sheriff showed Elvis his hand, Elvis actually licked it...lol. I asked the sheriff if he would mind seeing if Elvis would take a treat from him, and lo and behold, he did, and was quite happy about it. The best part though was really showing that if started at a young age and handled properly that a dog (even a puppy) can be courteous. The day trip ended with another surprise. His ever growing highness, figured out how to jump on to the floorboard of the truck and then to the seat all on his own. Hopefully this means I won't have to lift his ever expanding backside in anymore....lol
