WD40 dog repellant ??? .. Accidental surprising find. Anybody hear of this?

Has anybody heard of WD40 used as a dog repellant? ... No not lickable area! I got sick and tired of the squeek and the eeriest creeky sound the screen door has started making. So I opened it up sprayed a small bit on the top and bottom hinge and VOALA quiet. Only now Octane refuses to go through it or hell, even near it for that matter!

Octane, Jager and Abby were out playing in the yard when I opened up the door quirt a small amount on the hinges on the inside (not a lickable amount in an unlickable area). About 5 min later I opened up the door to call em in to eat. Jager almost to the door stopped, head tilted slightly, streched his head out and sniffed a little. He then tip toed closer, sniffed a little more and crept inside staring at the hinge area. Octane on the other hand... He stayed at the edge of the porch ears slicked back, tail between the legs, streching his head smelling the air. (Basically like a stranger had come in the house they had never seen before and was slowly trying to decide if thier scent was good people) I thought WTH? I opened the door all the way, stepped out standing in front of it and I guess he thought "Ok, I'm safe" and ran inside watching the door like a hawk. Even turned his head as he walked past it as to not take his eyes off it.
After eating a few min later same routine potty time! I opened the door, Jager ran out quickly, Abby had no care in the world and just lolly gagged out. But Oct? ... he was doing the typical runnin to the door like "woohoo play time outside" and came to a hault at the door. Changed his mind. Again started sniffing... I thought hmm odd! Ok, he wants to stay in and hoard all the loves to himself. I tried a little later and nadda, nope same reaction. I closed the screen and let him check it out. He tip toed close enough he could stretch his neck out, tail extended straight out for balance to get a scent of this intruder of a door. Tail went between the legs ears back and backed away into the kitchen. WTH? Could it be the WD40? has to be thats the only different change. Unless he was used to the squeek this past 2 wks and was protesting. So wihle he was sleeping away I thought I would test the theory. I grabbed the can with the straw and held the straw close enough to his nose he could get a smell from the residue (No not spray it, just the odor residue) after he caught a wiff he jumped up ears back, tail between the legs and high tailed his butt to the livingroom onto the couch! Now I have a squeekless door and an Octane thinking it's gonna eat him :lolbangtable:(along with his brother Jager who insists automatic doors are the devil) I know there's a million and 1 multi uses they say WD40 can be used for but this???
Like I said Not at any chance was there a lickable option, this was not a taste test area :D Yes ingesting this product is poisonous,
Although some elders think it's an arthritus cure (ahhh the aroma of WD40 vs BenGay)

I have a fila that as a pup was afraid of garbage cans for about 2 mths...inside the house, outside the house, if there was a garbage can we couldnt go past it unless I dragged her past it....she ofcourse grew out of that but it was the dumbest thing...garbage cans dont even move...now I can get her to stop trying to dive into my garbage can....shouldve kept that fear up like having someone jump out and scare the crap out of her while she was a pup, lol (J/K ofcourse).

haha, a garbage can? ... :) thats funny. Maybe one day when she was little it moved and she thought it was going to eat her. Now that she's bigger than it, she teaches it a lesson. (and of course she has to keep it in line) hehehe!
Finally today we can get him out the door but he is still umm, sensitive with it LOL. He rushes past it and watches it very closely still. My hubby didn't believe me so he tried it with the straw from the can when he got hime from work. Oh' ya it's proven again hahaha. poor dog :D Now to figure out how to get it in a container and stick it in favorite digging spots, JK JK

Actually, my Bull Mastiff is deathly afraid of WD-40. I can't spray it anywhere in the house without him barking feircely at it an then refusing to go near it. He keeps his tail tucked and is without a doubt scared. He has done this for years.

I have seen posts before that suggest a dog afraid of WD-40 must have been traumatized when they were young and had that scent nearby. That's crap. If that were true then why so many returns on goggle when you type, why is my dog afraid of WD-40.

Can someone answer this tricky question cause it has to be something with instincts.

Maybe it's the pressure of the air coming out of the can or straw? My dogs are afraid of those office air cans that you use to blow dust out of your keyboard & computer. Duchess has the same reaction, tail tucked, ears back & shackles standing up when she sees it.
