My vote goes for something added to the cat food personally. Not that dogs can't die from pancreatitus (which can screw with the kidneys, and if the kidneys were already less than steller....), but still. It would take ALOT of cat food to accumulate a toxic dose of taurine for any reasonably sized dog.
