Vomiting

Kismet decided that she would gorge herself on cat food this morning. About 30 minutes later she pukes it all up. 30 minutes later I feed them breakfast and she pukes all that up. I gave everyone a chicken's foot for a snack about 5 hours later. Within 10 minutes she pukes that up. Everything has basically undigested.

Anyone else's dog get sick after eating cat food?

What meds do ya'll give to a puking dog?

Thanks!

I am of no help because if I had a cat, Ruger would eat the cat instead of the food but I am fairly sure he would digest it without issue. :) Seriously though, I hope you find something to give her that stops the puking and that she feels better soon.

Thanks Kris! I would be glad to feed a couple of these cats to Ruger. Debra might get pissed though.

I'm going to give her a dose of pepto. Hopefully, that will clear it up. She is really acting wimpy. Thankfully, it is not Cane or Ruger. I can easily snatch Kismet up and run her to the vet. If she is not back to herself by in the morning I'm going to do.

He would appreciate you very much! :) I hear ya....The idea of having to deal with something like this with Ruger is something I dread. Keep me updated on the poor girl.

If she's keeping down water and otherwise acting normal, then pepto and fluids. But if she,s not keeping down water, or if she keeps it up, or starts acting like her tummy hurts then off to the vet with her!

If she'll keep down fluids then you might try boiling some chicken for a quick stock and bland meat to see if she'll tolerate that.

Cat food is normally "rich"... but not sure what else would have caused such a quick reaction. I've been known to use cat kibble as treats for getting nails trimmed... but that's in limited quantities.

I'd stop giving her food for the rest of the day -let things clear out- and start with something you know she digests well again tomorrow. I would have thought 5 hours would have been a good break for the tummy, but maybe she still has some kitty crunchies in the system?

Unless she's still underweight, and you don't want her to skip a meal?
Would LOVE to see some recent pictures!

Dante was getting into cat food all the time. It along with the litter box seemed to be his favorite treats. Upset his stomach tremendously and we went to the rice ad pumpkin diet for a few days to settle things down. Cat food and litter is now inaccessible to the dog.

Thanks yall!

We are off to the vets. She has become lethargic and will not eat. So NOT kismet. She is always balls to the wall and will eat anything. I will post when we get back.

Thanks everyone.

We're back! Vet thinks she just has a bad case of cat gas. No more cat food!!!

She got sub q fluids and an anti-nausea shot. She is still pretty wimpy. If she is not doing better in 24 hours we will go back for x-rays!

Dennasmom, I will post some recent pics. Shock the hell out of me when they weighed her. She came in at a whopping 59 pounds. When we got the poor starving baby she was only 23 pounds. I may not be good at a lot of things but I sure can fatten up a dog. Actually, what is sad she is not fat. That is just how skinny she was.

Thanks again!

Higher fat content. The little shit still has me worried. She got up on the bed went to sleep for about an hour. Then got down and went and got in her crate. She never does that.

Good morning Deb,

I don't think she is doing any better. She is laying beside me but she has bouts of shivering. She hasn't ate in 36 hours(that she hasn't thrown up) and she hasn't drank anything in over 12 hours, I just tried to give her a sip of my coffee and she won't even drink that.

I have a call in to the vet's. I'm waiting on a call back. If he doesn't call in the next hour I'm just going to take her in.

I just really panic when one of mine is sick. I'm hoping I'm just over reacting.

If anyone wants to chime in especially if you thinks this is normal I would love to hear from ya.

I'm with you, I would be freaking out. I agree, vet visit. Not drinking for 12 hours and still vomiting whatever she eats is a concern.

I hope they find a solution to her not drinking and continued vomiting. Poor girl...poor mommies...

Let us know what the vet recommends to do for the girl.

Vet just called, said not to worry if she doesn't drink or eat until tomorrow, they gave her enough fluids that we are not in panic mode yet. (easy for him to say).
