Ugh, Thor stinks might need more food suggestions

Ok, I had to go dig out a box, a cup of Embark weighs 2.8 ounces, when I was figuring things when I was deciding to switch one cup of TOTW kibble weighed 4.5 ounces.

You cannot compare foods just by the number of cups. Weight matters.

Now will you stop trying to compare apples and oranges??

I need to stop trying to argue when I should be in bed, my brain stops working and I do stupid things like forget to clear a tare on my scale before weighing the new items.

What I should have asked you last night was to go weigh a cup of the AP. Since I don't have it myself I had to rely on the internet, and according to here one cup of AP = 250ml, now 30ml = 1ounce, so 1 cup of AP = 8.33 ounces. That means you're getting 57 cups out of one 29.7lb bag, and since you feed 4.5 cups a day thats 12.6 days of food in a bag, or not quite two weeks. Does that match what you're doing?

To compare to THK (dry) 1 cup = 4 ounces, which means 40 cups in a box. If you feed 5cups that gives you 8 days of food.

You said you're paying $63 per bag? (for the sake of easy math I'm rounding down to 12 days in a bag of AP) so for 24 days you're paying $126. For 24 days of THK at $80 a box is $240. Double, not triple. So yes, in your case THK would not be comparable (by price) to what you're feeding, but neither is it triple what you're doing now.

For gods sake, give it a rest. And i think thats stupid a cup is a cup, and is always 8 ounces they sell measurement instruments that say this is a cup. Now if its more or less colories in a cup for a specific food then it should be less cups or more cups not bigger or smaller cups.

Unfortunately this is true for many foods. For instance an 8 oz measuring cup will only hold 4.8 ounces of earthborn great plains feast.

And I was told the duck formula of natures variety by the dog nutritionist I know but looking at the levels now I would go with the rabbit and the limited ingredient turkey over the duck.

mmyrto, your wrong! The stupid statement is " a cup is a cup and is always 8 oz." One cup of sugar does not weigh the same as one cup of rice. Please try it before you dispute it. I don't want to have to give a physics lesson. LOL

Maybe the confusion lies in that some are talking about volume and some are talking about weight?

a cup is a cup, but a cup of feathers does not weigh the same as a cup of lead and it makes a difference when you're comparing things. And "stupid" or not I'd appreciate you not using that word in reference to something I posted.

THK is a great food. I've used it sporadically over the years. I wouldn't be able to afford to feed a dog this size THK exclusively. A ten lb box holds 40 cups of food. At 5 cups a day, that's only 8 days worth of food. Luckily, it's better to feed it with raw and that's what I've done in the past. You can also trade in your box tops for free food.

With Mason, I used Love and Embark, but he had awful gas and poops on both. I've been feeding Acana and raw as of late, but his skin isn't looking as good as it was on raw alone. I'm going to try Natre's Variety Instinct next. I've heard good things regarding allergy/sensitive dogs and these formulas.

Thor was the same way ;/ my friend said that ever since I took him off raw he looks "better"

Smart Family I'm going to try Earthborn Holistics I like the fact of flavor rotation. However would it be ok for puppies?

Yep! For all ages you'd want to transition onto one flavor and then go through a big bag or two of that flavor. After that you can rotate through the flavors without having to transition onto each one.

For the record 1 cup of Acana Pacifica is 115 gr= 4.06 ounces and NOT 8.33 ounces.

I thought a cup was a cup, and you were the one who wanted to drop the argument in the first place.

And that would be why I asked if my math matched what you were getting out of a bag of kibble, I didn't find that document to use and had to go on what I found elsewhere. So how long DOES a bag of AP last you?
