Tucker - Research Pedigree 5 generations

Often say he came from a back yard breeder because of the way they tied his dad to a tree.. they did care for the mother but not in the way I'd prefer.

We never asked but I don't think any testing was done on his parents.

Pulled his AKC pedigree to find 2 champs pretty far back on his fathers side but also a good bit of DNA test and OFA testing which I was happy to see.

Tell me what you see from a breeders eyes..

I will note that "AKC DNA" just means that the dog's DNA is on file with the AKC. The AKC requires this for a couple different reasons, one of them being litters sired (or mothered) in a number over 4. But also if AI was used instead of natural mating. No actual testing is done on that DNA, its just kept on file in case there's a paternity/maternity question.

The random hip testing on the Dam's parents worry me a bit, makes me wonder if one of the grandparents had hip problems (or maybe a sib?), but it could also be a breeder trying to do the right thing.

Thanks for the feedback. I read up on the reasoning behind the DNA this AM, because I had no clue. The reason I say I was happy to see that was at least someone spent a little on his line lol, still could be for the wrong reasons (I expected to see nadda).

I was thinking the same on the hips, I've inquired about testing him.. hips & elbows, and was pleased with the quote from our vet. I'm thinking I may follow thru on that shortly as he's approaching 2 years.

Temp wise this guy is more solid than any of the EM's I've been around, had the same comments from those that have been around EM's for some time and a few breeders. He has true blend of guardian, yet a accepting nature of the public when he's with us. I truly think he could care less if anyone outside of us petted him but he will stand or lay in any store and let you do whatever.

As any owner is I'm basis to my dog. I look at other breeders dogs all the time and love their protocol on health testing & just the appearance but at the same time they don't live up to the temp expectation given we've had Tucker.

I often wonder how much of this is genetic and how much is the work I've put in him.

Upbringing makes a difference, but the perfect upbringing still relies on that base thats genetic.

Finding the right combination of health and temperment can be work, can't argue with that.
