Tripe Amount and classification

We hit the jackpot! The farmer/rancher we buy our organic grass fed beef from contacted us he was dressing out another group of steers and asked if we would like any of the "goodies" for Angus. We said yes on the heart. tongue, live and tripe. So after spending yesterday afternoon cleaning and cutting it into small pieces/strips my questions is how much tripe is advisable to feed?

I remember reading somewhere its a great probiotic for dogs, so should I count the tripe as organ meat or give as more of a supplement?

Tripe is known as "crack" to pups. I would go slow and steady because too much can cause diarrhea, like any organ meat. Titan didn't like green tripe. :(

When I was "cleaning" the tripe (outside - no way that farm fresh aroma is coming inside) Angus was obsessed! I gave him a tiny taste and it was all my hubby could do to get him forcibly back into the house. He now understands that you can't force a mastiff to go somewhere they don't want to go. :lolbangtable:

I agree with Titan - not may favorite taste/texture either no matter what its disguised in. :D

How much in ratio to other meats? Or just as tolerated?

Tripe is fed as meat, as was said. I usually give some to Mateo every day, but....I recently ran out.

Gonna get a shipment in next week!

And I would also feed as much as he tolerates it- you could make a whole meal of it if you want, but start out slow in the beginning.

Denna gets about 4oz with breakfast everyday...she'd do a whole pound or two at a time if I let her, but it's one of the more expensive things we have in the freezer.

Our pups meals are made up with about a third of tripe , then we add other meats like beef/lamb/chicken/venison/pheasant and offal
