Throwing up...help, please

He just threw up again, but right after that he drank quite a bit of water. I gave him a pepcid ac (generic) in about a teaspoon of sour cream. He ate it right up. I did find some pepto so I'm trying to give him some but he doesn't like it so i'm fighting with him.

And of course when I need it, I can't find my f@#%* syringe. Ugh.

Thanks Lizzy. I'm crossing my fingers, toes, and Franklin's paws that what I'm doing here will help.

He's not even keeping the water down now. I'm trying to make arrangements to get to the vet but without money, it's kind of difficult. Please pray for my boy. :(

Oh, man. Not sure if it's helpful at this point, but Mateo went through a day and a half of vomiting this spring. Wasn't drinking much, either-- or eating. I used a syringe to squirt some water in him, which helped a bit.

He was still active, but every once in awhile would eat some grass which, of course, meant more vomiting.

Finally I enticed him to eat/drink some broth as well as some canned sardines- just a little, which he finally kept down. By the end of day 2 he was bouncing around, back to normal.

Someone (a human M.D.) suggested that his stomach was caught up into a spasm of vomiting reflex (something like that), and not to try to feed him until things had settled. Of course the grass-eating was factoring into this..

But Franklin sounds pretty ill, poor guy. My thoughts are with you that this is just a weird fluke, and all will be well very soon...!

Thanks everyone. NY, I thought he would be better this morning, but he's worse. I'm waiting for a call back from Franklins trainer. He's trying to reach the vet he uses who is here in town. He can get me resuce rates, hopefully.
Franklin threw up again and now he is becoming much more lethargic.

Crossing fingers, this sounds so much like what Dozer went through. Most horrible first 12 hours, then waiting for the vet to call. And yes he went through it on the weekend as well.

I had no idea you could give a dog any kind of medicine meant for humans except for benadryl and aspirin.

Don't give dogs human aspirin. Forgot why, but there is aspirin for dogs. Poor Franklin, it's definitely vet time. Hope it is nothing serious.

Buffered aspirin is fine for dogs. Not coated enteric aspirin because it passes the stomach and desolves in the intestines and can cause ulcerations. Pepto has aspirin in it if I remember and that's fine due to the delivery and the coating properties of the medication.

Update...the vet just called to check on him. She told me to give him absolutely nothing, including water for the next 24 hours. She said he won't dehydrate in that amount of time.  before she called,  he drank a little water and ate a small bite of egg and that has stayed down. It's been about 45 minutes. He's sleeping now and doesn't seem quite so restless. The trainer couldn't call me back because one of his rescues died of bloat this morning. :(

Honestly with the amount he's vomited and now diarrhea as well I would just go to a vet! Waiting another 24 hours seems too long to wait since its already been 24 hrs since it started and you haven't been able to get him to keep anything down.

Here a good update...

Franklin hasn't vomited again since around noon and it's 3:15 now. He's acting like he's starving to death and he snagged a french fry off my plate. I haven't given him any food or water since I spoke with the vet. He seems to have a little more energy, but not much. His gums are still nice and pink and the skin on his snack still snaps back quickly. I will give him a small amount of water or an ice cube tonight if everything stays the same, but he won't get food until tomorrow afternoon.

After my last post, I brought his baby blanket out of the laundry room (he had thrown up on it so I had to wash it) and put it on his bed. Usually he throws it in the air and bites it. Today, he pushed it into a pillow and cuddled with it. It was so cute but as soon as I tried taking a picture he moved...of course.

Anyway, my fingers are crossed that this is the last of it but even if it is, I'd really like to know how he got so sick so fast so it doesn't happen again.

Then again, I thought he was fine last night too.
