How's Franklin this morning? Mike, I had an experience with pancreatitis with my GSD/Chow mix. Not a fun experience at all. Pup pulled through the experience. :)

I woke up at 6:30 to the sound of him throwing up again. It was partially undigested canned food from last night. After I got it cleaned up, we went outside and he had diarrhea. :(

Sorry to hear this. Main concern is keeping him hydrated. Has he drank any water? If he doesn't drink this morning, vet check is needed.

I would recommend stopping the canned food. It appears that it may be the change in food. He's hungry but he can't keep the food down. Try some boiled hamburger/chicken with rice to see if he can keep that down. But again, main concern is hydration.

He drank water last night, but not yet this morning. His attitude is ok...he's happy, but doesn't seem to have much energy. He's just laying around.

His tummy isn't hard or distended in any way and it doesn't seem to hurt, but there sure is a lot of noise going on in there this morning.

I don't know what could have brought this on. He was fine one minute, then sick the next.

Deb, when he gets up I'll try to get him to eat something and see what happens.
Fila, I'm sorry about Flower. That must have been horrible. Poor girl.

See if he will drink water this morning. Do you have some broth to add to the water to entice him to drink it? I would not feed him dog food until his system is better.

I would take him to the ASAP. In this heat, he can dehydrate very fast, even if he is not outside that much. Espacially if he is throwing up AND has diarrhea

thank you and it was beyond comprehension! Flower was fine the night before, romping and playing being her crazy self and then I awoke to throw up in the am and she had diarrhea. it was so quick I thought she had a little bug.attitiude was fine, not as bubbly, but not something I felt was a problem. by the end of the day you could just tell she felt like crap.

I am now beyond paranoid over everything and anything!!sorry!!!

don't mean to scare you or sound crazy!!LOL!!

You don't sound crazy! I would have been crazy with worry.

Sadie, if he doesn't drink soon or keeps vomiting, I will take him. I'm already looking up emergency vets in the area.

He just threw up again. That's three times since 6:30. I'm looking for an emergency vet in the area that might be able to help me with payments. I offered him water but he didn't want it. He's not dehydrated yet, the skin on his neck snaps back into place quickly.

:(

Are you able to get Care Credit? Its a "credit card" for use only at the Vets, and they usually offer the first 6months free of interest to give you a chance to pay it off.

I would not wait until he is dehydrated. If he is not drinking and throwing up, do not wait. It would cost you a whole lot more to get him back to "normal" with IV fluids if he is dehydrated vs. not that bad yet. And at this point, it is not just the risk of dehydration. Obviously there is something else going on.

Actually, I think it is 12 months interest free on the first charge.

Ok, I just got off the phone with a vet at a emergency clinic here in town. I explained that I don't have a car available and that money was tight. She is concerned about the possibility of a partial obstruction or pancreatitis, but since he isn't in pain, she told me to try a couple of things over the next couple of hours before I brought him in. She said if this OTC medicine doesn't work in the next four hours or so to bring him in right away.

1.Get him to drink. Of course I knew that but I will try to at least get him to lick an ice cube if nothing else.
2. Give him pepto bismol. I teaspoon per 20 pounds. I don't have any, but I can get some.
3. Give him a pepcid ac or Zantac (1 whole tablet) to reduce his stomach acid a little. I guess this is supposed to settle his stomach.
4. She said the same thing you guys did about feeding him 1/4 to 1/2 cup of rice if he keeps his medicine and water down but not until tonight.

This doctor was really nice and understanding. I had no idea you could give a dog any kind of medicine meant for humans except for benadryl and aspirin.

I'll look up Care Credit and apply for it. I got my daughter a car two years ago in my name that she had repo'd, so I doubt I'll get it but it's worth a try.
