• Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

This is why I hate people

Today was the BIG adoption event in our county. This is the video from last year.

Hundreds of people come with their dogs; hundreds of rescue organizations there. We always dress the dogs up for the costume contest (watch for Sunny Santa & his helper girls in the video). Then we walk them across the park in costume to have their pic taken w/Santa. Everyone knows & loves them. This year, we put Ally & a friend on a shuttle to go to Santa's, since Ally has a hard time walking (she's very old, & blind). We walked the rest of the crew there.
When we got there, there was a big commotion going on. Guess who was in the middle of it? Our friend Cheryl & Ally. Seems a moron wasn't paying attention to their poodle on a flexi lead, & the poodle ran up & snapped at Ally, got her in the lip. Cheryl had Ally on a very short lead, since she wanders & gets tripped up, or trips other peole up. And it was crowded. Ally is not one to back down from a fight, so she snapped back & connected with the poodle. As in he was in her mouth. Cheryl tackled the two of them while the other lady stood there & screamed. Cheryl finally pried Ally's jaws open & got the poodle away. Then Cheryl pulled Ally away from the lady & her poodle; hollered "Is he ok?" "I think so" she said. Then...this is the disgusting part of my sad story...a man came from nowhere, out of the crowd, and proceeded to kick Ally in the ribs, then got her in a head lock, & repeatedly punched her in the face. This is at a dog event. With people all around. Cheryl grabbed Ally yelling at the guy "She's old & blind! LET HER GO!" The guy, as he was STILL punching Ally, said "IF you can't control your dog I will." FINALLY some people grabbed hold of this monster & pulled him off of Ally. She just laid there. We got there just as the guy stalked off, saying something about where's his gun when he needs it. By the time we realized it was Ally & Cheryl in the middle of it, this guy was gone. WHAT IN GOD'S NAME IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?

The police, animal control, & the sponsors of the whole function were looking for him. They also interviewed everyone in the crowd to see if, by chance, someone actually got a picture of him. I'm just so upset, & so sorry we didn't get there 30 seconds earlier. That fool would have been torn to pieces. A few of us would have ended up in jail, but it would have been worth it.

If it was a big event as you say it was, some one will get him. Karma's a b!tch
That's what I keep saying. But it's not making me feel better. What would have made me feel better was to get my hands on that monster. I'm just so full of rage, & so sad that, once again, people have reinforced my opinion of the human race.

What a POS!!! How about you burn those GOD DAMN FLEXI LEASHES!!!! I hate those things and that people think their dogs are under control on them!!!!

I hope the old girl is alright and I hope that guy gets what is coming to him. Maybe a few of us should find out his address and see how he likes being the one attacked! I agree with the probably would have went to jail but like you I think there are some things that are worth the jail time for.

I am with you this week! I usually try to see the best in people but this past week, with the people I have been dealing with, some I have been talking to, reading the posts of (not directed at anyone here as I am a member on a couple ;) of boards) people and I am starting to think this world is beyond hope!

While I agree I would have been absolute LIVID after all was said and done harming that person wouldn't have done any good in the long run. Someone will get him. The time, money, legal fees, etc are just no worth it for this a$$hole.

PS now you know why prefer to be away from people. ;) I found a long time ago what the human race can be about......

PS Mary I agree I HATE FLEXI LEADS!!!!!

I agree also, HOWEVER, when I walk my little dog I use a flexi leash. But I don't let her just wander off. I keep her within 3-4 feet of me. If there's other dogs or people, she is RIGHT next to my side. Only reason why I use it is bc when I use a regular leash & regular collar she will choke herself & have a reverse sneezing fit. It's not like she's pulling the leash, I think she just can't breathe when there's pressure on her neck & it causes her to go into that fit. Which is why I use a harness & a flexi leash with her. Plus I've heard of yorkies have esophagus issues so I try to eliminate any kind of direct pressure on her neck.

Yah, so NOT a fan of flexi's, and theres a bunch of them floating around the show grounds when the dogs aren't on show leads this weekend.....I've seen them used well, but more often the owner just allows the dog to have the run of the lead with no control.

Raechiemay, my BIL's family uses one with their schitzhu, BUT, she's a well trained dog, and she isn't allowed to wander at the end of it either. Makes a HUGE difference. My Uncle-in-law uses one with his Pom....and yah, I cringe, and grab an extra handfull of Apollo's leash when I see them coming.

I agree on the flexi-leashes- they're evil in the wrong hands (and most are in the wrong hands, IMO).

My dog was attacked by an intact husky/mal when the owner came over the hill and saw a dog that her dog had been friendly with before...playing with Mateo (whom she didn't know.) She just let the leash go and extend out as the husky was running towards the dogs. As soon as he smelled Mateo (also intact) he launched a fight. Of course, Mateo switched into full-on defense attack mode and here I was, trying to pull apart 200 pounds of dog while the owner of the husky had to run to catch up with the long extended leash...

Here's the thing- she knew her dog has zero tolerance for other intact males...so, WTH was she thinking?! There is no control with those things- get a proper leash, for gd's sake...

Anyway, that story of the man attacking the dog still makes my skin crawl; I might have done damage to some of his body parts, for sure. And I'm barely over 100 pounds...

I have one that I use for practicing "recalls". I cut the string let the dog wonder if the dog refuses to come when called I pull on the flexi string. So I guess its a half flexi lead.....

I have a pair of 30ft leads for much that purpose. Or for occasions like today when I needed to let Apollo have some more space without dragging me around.

I tried a lunge line but it was "too heavy" I wanted something "light" that Thor couldn't "feel" or "notice" the attachment.

But were going off topic.....:) Ruby, keep us posted. I have a feeling its just a matter of time before that "person" is caught.
