  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

This is embarrassing...but here goes...

Hi guys. We'll I'm looking for a little advice here. Now I am sure as dog owners some of you have run into this. I'll try to be brief, but I have to explain. We have adopted a 2 yr old nutered male CC named "Bear". He is the the love of our lives and we all just adore him. He has been with us just over 6+ months with absolutely zero incidents. I just love the breed but this is my first CC. I had a black lab/mastiff mix named "Bronx" whom I raised as a puppy years ago, that to this day still has a special place in my heart. (We lost him early to cancer) This is where my love for the Molosser breeds comes from as we've usually had just labs. (who are great dogs as well.)

Anyway, in addition to "Bear", we also have two other dogs that own us too. A 8-yr old nutered black lab male named "Jackson", and a 1-yr old lab/collie-mix spayed female named "Riley". All of whom get along fabulously.

This issue is, Bear has sudddenly started to "Turd-Burgle", aka (eating the other two dogs stools). Now it's not often thank goodness, but when they're all in the yard playing, (supervised of course as it gets too hot in Arizona to leave them unattended) sometimes he'll stop and grab one. I have spoken with several friends as well as people at the Pet store, etc... They basically tell me that it's a mineral deficiency where the dog is just trying to "suppliment" items it feels is lacking in his diet? (as gross as that sounds.) I currently have them all on Nutro - large breed kibble and I cut in a little raw for Bear as well , as he needs to gain about 10-15 lbs more according to our vet. (he's a little over 100 lbs. now.) He eats within seconds, and we do about 5-6 cups/day per feeding. Now my dog Bronx used to "Turd-Burgle" as well, so I'm not sure if this is a mastiff thing or not?
All of the labs we've had never did this.

I've heard that using Brewers yeast tablets may work? But I was wondering if any of you have run into this, and what did you do to curb this behavior?
Thank you, your advice is welcomed and greatly appreciated!

I personally used an anti-coperphalgia supplement on my dogs food (The one doing the eating and the ones that are laying down what he is eating). You can get it at most pet suppliers and vet offices. It I guess is suppose to make the poop taste gross...?? haha weird. There is a more natural thing you can give them too its like a steak spice....I can't remember the name. I am sure one of the other members will chime in. Remember to clean your yard as much as possible too.

On Wolfcreek's website they say DE helps to stop stool eating. My dogs have not done this ever and I do feed them DE. But they do eat dirt, maybe I need to increase the amount I give mine.

MORE REASONS TO FEED FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH TO YOUNG ANIMALS & PETS

Feeding DE to young pets - kittens, puppies, birds, goats, etc. as soon as they start eating on their own has shown to help prevent stool eating, dirt eating, rock eating, coccidia and giardia. Since Codex DE eliminates intestinal worms and provides 15 vital minerals, it helps keep the immune system stronger and healthier. There is no easier way to assure healthier, happy, radiant furry and feathered family members. Of course, feeding Species Appropriate Nutrition helps, as does researching information about Animal Vaccines and considering fewer of these toxins being injected into the body.

i love holistic/natural health care, and DE is an amazing thing for one and all!!! my dogs and cats all get it in their food daily :) its great for general wellbeing and also keeps parasites at bay and helps with digestive health.

DE's not a bad thing to add to their diet. Just make sure you get food grade DE!

I'm told that sprinkling meat tenderizer on the poop works too (though that means you have to follow thwm around the yard). Its not a problrm I've dealt with though!

I've heard that adding pineapple to their food helps. Apparently it tastes good the first time but not the second. I haven't tried it though.

I had not heard DE was good for poop-eating... Denna STILL swipes "snacks" out of the yard if we don't watch her deposit them and get to them first (she's raw fed, which is supposed to be the #1 way to curb stool-eating, and we also tried SolidGold's Seameal as a mineral/probiotic supplement - but that didn't help, either)... I have some DE, we'll start using it regularly and see if that has any effect.

Adolph's meat tenderizer works. Pineapple works as well. My dogs all love pineapple. I've had issues with my dogs poop eating. With multiple dogs you have to make sure all of them are eating whatever it is you're going to give them so everyone's poop tastes bad.

Good luck!
