:eek::eek:To all Fila owners/experts,

I bought a 3 months old nice looking Fila puppy shown in pics below. I do some research after I got the dog and unfortunately I found out purebred fila has black nose, dark eye.

However the fila I got here has pink nose & bluish eyes. Is that any thing wrong with this fila?

#Many thanks for your consultations.

I'm no expert but IMHO that is not a full blooded Fila. I'm sure others will respond but it may take a while.

also, the parent has black nose. Her father is brindle (tiger color), and below is her mother's picture taken when the owner shows me.

Did you need a purebred Fila for something?
Especially now that you've done some research on the breed and are aware of some of their special traits...

Looks like a beautiful dog.

I know that pup isn't white but otherwise looks like it was born lacking pigment. Is that possible? The so light eyes, the pink around them, the pink nose and the super pink pads on its feet. I wonder is the whole underbelly and exposed skin pink, too? I don't know about whether it is a Fila or not but very oddly striking pup. He/She is gorgeous! :)

Denna, I would think if he was sold a Fula puppy (with or without researching) that he paid for a Fila so if this pup isn't he would have a right to be upset, I think.

I agree with the lack of pigment statement above.--This can happen in any breed, & there are varying degrees of pigment loss reflected in the coat, skin & eyes.

As a general rule, it is linked to deafness &/or blindness in dogs--but usually if predominantly white, & male, with blue eyes. (Same with cats actually). Even slight hints of color around the head area are linked to being able to hear, especially if over the ears--
At any rate--I can't remember the exact gene--maybe piebald or something, but your pooch has plenty of color--just appears very dilute, so in my opinion, it's a genetic recessive thing that should not affect the health/wellbeing-just isn't textbook.

Kind of like a person with red hair & blue eyes--which is lack of pigment, & recessive (and striking, love the gingers lol)

Anyway, that is a BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL dog you have there. Please be careful with nose/ears in the sun, they will burn easily.

I can't speak for the pure bred fila part, I'm not one of the fila experts. I would have fallen for that pooch on 1st glance fila or not!

The genes that cause the pale leather of nose and eye rims and paw pads are recessives. So in general its possible for them to stay hidden in the gene pool and show up unexpectedly. I don't know enough about Fila genetics to know what the breed's chances of it showing up are. But considering the working nature of the breed's background a nose that'll burn in the sun would be an undesireable trait.

zebraworks,
I bought it before I do details research on fila like eg. physical characteristics. This dog & her parent just look quite similar to online images i saw.

DennasMom,
I'm so fascinated by fila's guardian character, hope to have a purebred fila and perhaps may breed in the future.

Rugers-Kris,
Yes, the whole underbelly is pinky.

Again, thanks for all the information, I'm a newbie and next time should do more research before buy any dog:)

Even with the possibility of there being a lack of pigment this dog is not purebred imo, super cute nonetheless

I do have to say it is a VERY striking dog.... VERY striking. I wont say if it is pure bred or not. I don't do that anymore as it causes some to get sand in unsavory places. If you take the advice of some here all you have to do is spend $ on a dog that was sold to you as a Fila, think it looks like a fila and think it acts like a fila... If you have all (or at least one of) those things then you have a pure bred fila and can start a breeding program immediately! If it sounds like a joke it is because it has always been one, lol. The answer of course is no, that is no Fila... not a purebred one anyway.

This looks like a neapolitan mastiff mother. They come in a tawny color that has liver nose and pigment.

Do you have a pedigree on this puppy ?
Very good Suzy. I had to think about it for a while but you could def be right here. What do think about the eye color.... GD?

Guys, i think this is the accidental genetics change happened to the great fila. The pic below shows the group of puppy born together. Notice that left 1, and right 2 has pinky nose, one of it is my dog, that's why I bought it cheaper compare to other supplier~:(.
