  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

The search begins!!

After a dog has given birth, she usually goes into heat again about four months later. The 2 months that they are pregnant count as part of the 6 months between cycles.

Thanks for the info. That would mean Grace woul probably go into heat in April and Super again in July or August. Add about four months from the pregancy date to taking the pups home at eight weeks, that would put Grace's pups go home date in August and Super's in November or December.

Hmmmm....

It's not too cold in Nov and Dec (can occasionally dip below 32), but most years (not this one) it rains all of the time from Oct to Mar.

Sucks we have to wait that long, but doing the math, the wait isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Now I just have to decide on...

Judah X Super

or

Grace X Cowboy.

Grace and Super are sisters and look very similar, but I'd lean towards Super.

Judah and Cowboy are quite a bit different. Judah is bigger and has more of that old school big boned mastiff look. Cowboy is a really good looking solid dog, and I think he's been proven more (more "awards").

At this point Laura and I haven't touched base and I don't know which number I'd be on either list. That could make a difference. If I pass on the Cowboy breeding and there ends up not being enough boys for me in the next Judah breeding, I'm SOL.

Also, my wife really wants an apricot over a brindle. The odds would be better with Judah since there wouldn't be any brindles in that litter.

Yes, the Grace/Cowboy breeding can only produce fawns and brindles.

Also, I think Super would probably go back into heat in June. Her last heat when they bred her was in early January right?

Not really. I haven't done any more searching since I got the news above. I reached out to Glacier Mastiffs in Reno, NV when I was first starting my search, but I decided to go with Stonehaven. I'm pretty sure Cece from Glacier should be having pups any time now based on the last e-mail from her, but there's a good chance they're all claimed at this point.

Just checked out her site. She's expecting pups any time and has an outside breeding due in April (edit to add, looks like this is in NC).

So....if I really wanted a pup soon I could see if she has any available still from the her breeding, but I'm inclined to wait for a Stonehaven one.

Like I have to tell myself when house hunting...don't settle for something you won't be 100% happy with. You know what you like & if it were me, I'd wait. It will be well worth the wait in the end & I think you'll be much happier.

I think I've looked at them before and they're seem very, very stringent on their spay/neuter requirement for pet quality pups. I don't want to be forced to neuter my dog and put him at additional health risks that my pup and I will both pay for in the future.

So, heard from Laura. Apparently I'm fourth on the list for both breedings now, which is kind of disapointing. Not sure how I moved from 2 to 4 so quickly on the Cowboy breeding without moving up on the Judah breeding. She's letting me be on both lists, so maybe she doing the same with the other people that were on the Judah list. If they love a pup from Cowboy and take it, they drop off the Judah list and I move up. I have no idea. She's been really sick lately so I haven't spoken with her besides e-mails.

I'm sorry :( we're expecting (hoping) our pup will arrive April 4-6th...similar situation there's 3 people in line for males were the first in line for female...is it common to only get 1-2 pups?
