Temperament

I saw my second Dogo today. What an impressive animal. I talked with the owner at length about his dogs temperament. I now have people telling me exact opposite view points about this breed. What is the deal with these dogs. Are they pure predator with DA and HA, product of environment, just hunting dogs, or a loyal family companion? Any and all input would be appreciated....

Its nothing new.
Did you ever inquire about other breeds? You will likely get the same conflicting responses... People see what they want in every dog and then stretch it from one or two individuals to the entire breed.
As a matter of fact, although belonging to the same breed, dogs are still individuals. My advice is to purchase a pup from a reputable breeder. Meet the parents before, so you are confident that you like their temperament.

Solid response. You are right on with: "you will likely get the same conflicting responses... People see what they want in every dog and then stretch it from one or two individuals to the entire breed." And I see the differences with in breed too.

+1 ^^ Although my Dogo pup is only 5 months now, he shows no signs of aggression towards anyone or anything. He is the most cuddly dog I'v eever known and met, and he walks up to stray cats with respect. He's an amazing dog. It's all about proper training and exposure to everyday life. I take my pup as many places as possible, let him meet as many strangers as possible, as well as take him to play with other dogs in a controlled environment. He's deaf, so training is a bit more difficult, but he catches on so quickly. He's incredibly social!! My mother has a daycare as well, and he's there all the time playing with the kids, and somehow just seems to understand that he needs to be gentle with them, especially infants. They all play tag with him lol... I would recommend this breed to anyone! As long as they can handle the amount of work they need to put into his early life.

My Dogo is about 3 years old. Kind, loving I take him to work every day. I build custom homes and lots of people come inside the house he barks once just to let them know he is there. If he has met you even once he remembers and dosnt bark. He is great around chickens goats sheep cats other dogs. BUT if you where a stranger and got in my truck or came on my property especialy if my 4 year old son is there, I think you would be lucky if you only lost only your arm.If there is another aggressive dog he just avoids, but he will win if the other dog keeps coming. All the rules are different on his property. He is first a lover and lap dog, and then a great white angel that protects his family and property, I dont think he would even hesitate going to the death for his family. He is a great dog, we love him so much. I wouldn't change a thing
