Well, apologies if this was covered earlier .... I did look for something similar but either a) I didn't dig far enough or b) I'm in the wrong section.
Anyway, Ebony (our mature Bullmastiff) is a devoted chewer (fortunately not of household items, just whatever treats we give her). She particularly loves rawhide, but destroys them in a very short time and then of course we have to take away the pieces. We tried compressed rawhide which lasted a little longer and was likewise very much enjoyed. On recommendation we tried giving her a Nylabone (chicken flavor, I think), but she doesn't seem to want it very often and she doesn't chew on it very enthusiastically.
My question is this: what's the best chewie to give her? I've heard pork bones are a no-no, but would a large beef bone be okay? I'm concerned about bone chips. Even though we don't let her have a chewie unless we're around to supervise, could she still break off enough pieces to hurt herself? If rawhide is the best option, I'm going to have start buying in bulk. We want to make sure she's got things to keep her occupied and of course to help keep her teeth clean.
