  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Struggling to hold on for 2 more weeks!!!

This has been the longest 10 weeks of my life! Two more to go and we will drive the 12 hours to get our BM girl! It has been getting tougher and tougher. Our breeder will decide the puppy for us with our situation in mind-I appreciate that. We are down to 2 girls-one brindle and one fawn(down from 7 girls). Both now a bit over 8 weeks old. We will get her at 10 weeks old. I am a control freak by nature and this is so difficult for me. My hubby is much more laid back-thank God. He is fine with whatever-damn him! We have no other pets right now for the first time in my adult life and it really sucks. We have the crate up, toys out(actually we never put away the toys,or the beds, from Koloff who died in August. I am just losing my patience and I want to know what puppy is ours NOW as I want to bond at least through the computer. NOW, dammit. Maybe some BM breeders here can offer some guidance as to why it has taken so long-temperament testing at 7 weeks and confirmation last week. We are very happy with the breeder and we think she does a great job holding firm with taking the time to fit each puppy into a new home. I appreciate that and glad she does that. I just feel almost sick with desperation to know what little face to call my own. Sorry for the frustration, guys! We just are missing the center of our home right now.......

Like being 10 and waiting for Christmas to get here!!! lol We all know your pain. :)

Can you post pics of the pups? I am sure some of the breeders will chime in about the temp testing.

Patience is a virtue, they say, whoever they is... I'm with ya, I have a lot of patience for whatever I do not want NOW!

I have heard Melatonin is good for anxiety.
I went through the same pains as you are going through now after we picked our puppy at 6 weeks and had to wait another 4 weeks to take her home.
It went pretty fast actually, but felt like an eternity.
You are lucky that it is Christmas time, you can busy your self and put your mind to doing all the stuff that needs to be done for Christmas.
All the shopping, decorating, baking etc.
Then when the baby comes home and destroys all your decorations and has made a mess of the tree you can spend all your time redecorating cleaning and potti training, oh and by that time I'm sure you will find out how welcome that eggnog and brandy really is.
Congratulations on the new baby and make sure to send pictures.

Well, there will be very few gifts this year so no shopping. Why? New Puppy! I am not a baker as I am trying to lose a bit of weight so not much cooking. I am a avid bicyclist and can't ride my bike with the weather so bad-arrgghhh! And my job is in health care so crazy frustrations there. I am a patient person and know good things will be here soon. I have pics of the litter but don't know how to post them. Maybe I should busy myself figuring that out:)

I too am anxious, I get to pick up my Bully on the 19th, (11 more days). I do however know which pup is mine. I can't wait til he gets here. Which breeder did you choose? I'm currently getting my house ready for a puppy. I just found a great deal on a Giant Crate on Craigslist. I've got to stock up on some bitter apple and chew toys next.

Can't wait to see pictures! I would be a bundle of excitement too. Since it's a girl either way what names are you thinking of?

The crate is up in the bedroom and waiting. We have new toys and dozens of old ones from Koloff that would be great to recycle. I do need to get bitter apple. I ordered a little jacket for the cold times to potty and play outside. We have puppy class and puppy insurance lined up already. Car is gassed up and oil is changed! We get her on the 20th and I hope she doesn't get car sick as it is quite a drive!
Her name is Brodie Faye-myhubby always names the dogs after a wrestler(sigh)Bruiser Brody for all you wrestling peeps. So I girled it up a bit. I think it will do......

The person who was going to sell me the Giant sized crate on Craigslist has not responded to me today. I hope that doesn't mean she has sold the crate. Crates for Giant's are expensive, Petco expects you to shell out 250 plus for a Giant sized crate.

Besides the alarmingly high price for a crate, I'm worried that i'm going to make my German Shepherd jealous with all the time i'll be spending with my new pup training. I hope he sets a good example.

Try here. We ended up with one here & he still fits fine on sale for $50- not sure the exact deminsions but pretty sure it was on sale... After my husband bought lumber & chain link fencing & built this giant "kennel"/dog run- literally the size of a small horse stall in our basement storeroom. Mario hated it & cried every night... As soon as we switched to our extra kennel for the little dog but I. The living too
He slept through the night. So we ended up with with a wire monstrosity in the livingroom for 10 months. They ship for free over $99. Nice company that's local to us. :) Bedding - Housing - Containment : Rural King

And sold our "Stall" to an employee. It was huge/ fit my fake, Christmas Tree, tons of tubs of holiday decorations inside it.

They are a lot cheaper than Petco, about $50 cheaper, but the product I want says only available in stores. There isn't one in Jacksonville, so i'll have to find another place. Thanks for the link though.

Yes!!! Check off one more day! I just cannot believe how tough this has been for me. I feel like I am a tough girl over all(doesn't every one say that), but losing your fur baby and waiting to fill the hole is almost unbearable. It has to be akin to adopting parents waiting for what seems like years! I am sure they would disagree. I am already planning for mastiff # 2 in the fall of 2014 if the finances allow. I am checking the home email every morning before work just in hopes of a note from the breeder telling us which little squishy face is ours-damn, people!

OK-update! We are getting the breeders pick of the litter as far as sweetness goes-a little brindle girl wearing a cute flower collar. Melts your heart! We leave for the great white north(Michigan) early Friday morning. Pray there is no snow/ice crap that weekend. Southerners can't drive in those conditions, we all know that.
The wait is almost over! Anyone know of a good cheap digital camera that an electronics idiot can use and learn to post pics? That is the last puzzle piece....

5 more days and the weather is looking fair. Friday will be rainy and 45 but Sat it will snow a bit-hopefully in our rearview mirror!. I don't know of anything else we need-signing up for pet insurance today-would not be without it. One quick question about early socialization.....She will have the second set of shots before she leaves. We have a puppy class signed up for the end of March but before that we will be doing a lot on our own. Do we need to have all the shots before puppy to dog greetings? We have a handful of "aunts and uncles" that are eager to met the little one and I know they are all healthy. I will not be having her meet unfamiliar dogs until the vet says she is safe. What does everyone think?

I followed the conservative approach and kept my pup ("Percy") out of contact with other dogs, except the yorkie with whom he lives, until he had the last set of shots. For me, the risk was not worth the reward. I did not purchase puppy insurance but you may want to look at the terms of the policy and it may help you answer the question for you. Prior to the last set of shots, I exposed Percy to a lot of people. I also would put him in a shopping cart and take him into any store that would let me and let everyone pet him. He is now 21 weeks and I get compliments on his socialization. We started puppy kindergarten after the last set of shots.

It is best to wait until 3 set of shots but some take them out with 2 sets of shot. I'm with rcnd82, wait until 3 set of shots.

You can still socialize by taking him for rides in the car, taking him to a busy shopping center and let him sit and watch people. Do activities that do not require any contact with grass that other pups would have pottying on.
