I have to do something. :(

We did the boiled meat/rice/pumpkin mkxture for three days and added a probiotic that she still gets everyday. On day 4, I put her on a grain-free salmon and pea food. Yesterday her poop was fine. Today I noticed it was getting a little soft so I added pumpkin to lunch and dinner. Just now, she let loose with a huge pile of soft serve all over the floor. Thank goodness I own a carpet cleaner.

I just don't get it. Will she have to eat rice and beef for the rest of her life? She feels absolutely fine. She's eating and drinking normally, full of energy, etc. I KNOW this is food related and that she's not sick. I just can't figure this out. I believe that if she was sick even the beef and rice wouldn't make as much of a difference as it made.

She gets NOTHING other than food. I can't even give her treats on the rare occasion she's not a brat. Lol

I really don't know what else to.do.

Barlow: I hope you're adding a multivitamin to that, because if you're only feeding 1/3 kibble you've reduced his vitamin intake (INCLUDING calcium and phos) by 2/3rds, and thats REALLY REALLY BAD. And according to what you've posted he's actually getting LESS than 1/3rd of the needed vitamins because you mixed the kibble with water. You need to have a long talk with a vet nutritionist.....

Franklin's mom, did you just switch her over cold turkey or did you make it a nice and slow change?

Cold turkey since she had been on beef and rice for three days. I didn't think it had to be a slow transition. Should it have been?

For some dogs nope, but for her apparently yes.

Put her back on boiled rice and meat, till she's been normal for at least 4 days, and then start SLOWLY introducing the nre kibble. Like, just a few kibbles a meal for the first day at least.

Just read this thread. Poor Miss P and mom!! I can only imagine the frustration at not being able to find an appropriate food for the poor girl. Best of luck!

Those who have young dogs that are having problems with diarrhea I would suggest an extensive fecal check which includes checking for giardia and coccidia. I would also ask that the vet man the microscope instead of a vet tech. There are a lot of false negatives for both giardia and coccidia.

I agree, time for a vet check. What about adding raw chicken bone to her meals or is she allergic to chicken and what about adding rice to her kibble or have you done that?

IMO, I think her system needs to adjust to the grain free food since her system was used to the grains (causes stools to be hard).

It's not diarrhea but soft stool. Again, IMO, give the food time to work and do it's job.

If you are overly concerned, take her for a worm check.

Poor Miss P...

What about a broth? Just a good homemade meat based broth (no bones to mess with calcium levels) with whatever supplements/veggies/herbs you want. It might help to sooth her stomach and would get some extra nutrition into her as she clearly isn't absorbing all the nutrition from the kibble?

The fact that she remained solid on the beef/rice for several days makes me less worried about parasites, though getting her checked for htem isn't a bad idea. I honestly suspect it was the cold-turkey switch, since she's clearly got a sensitive tummy. The addition of broth shouldn't hurt.

Having said that, if even a slow slow switch doesn't work then I'd be recommending not only a parasite check, but also a bloodwork set.

Thanks everyone. She doesn't really have diarrhea, as in watery stools. It's more like a thick mud and not all the time. Last night it was mud, this morning, it was fine.

I just called her vet and made a tentative appointment for next Wednesday, October 1. If I can't get this under control by then, we'll see what the doc has to say. I told the person who answers the phone was P's problem is and she didn't seem too concerned, but then I don't know what she knows.

I'll put her back on the rice/beef/pumpkin mixture for a few days and get her system cleaned out again. She is still taking her probiotic once a day.

I just pulled her paperwork out that I got from the breeder. She had difficulties with diarrhea when she was a baby, from 4/27 through 5/17. She was born on 4/4. According to this, the vet could see no reason for her diarrhea other than it came from the supplemental formula she was given, but she has had "muddy" poop since I got her.

so her poo is #6?

Hector had parvo at the breeder's and she had him on morning raw and night kibble. When he came home his poo was a black tarry substance. He had cannon butt for about 2-3 weeks. Since he was on kibble, I bought him wellness puppy vantage (wasn't active on this forum). Then I saw worms too, so I gave him dewormer and switched him to raw completely and he cleared up within 1-2 weeks I can't remember. Then I tried to put him on kibble at 1+ years old, but that gave him diarrhea so back to the raw. Now he is okay with kibble without having cannon butt. I think she needs time to build her immune system after have D for so long. I would have her on the meat/rice for longer periods of time as in 2 weeks to a month until her system gets stronger.

Good luck!
