OK, here's the situation, we got our gentle giant a few days ago from a lady off Craigslist.. She was feeding him whatever was on sale at Walmart. He's about 8 months old and farting up a storm. We switched his food from Old Roy to Nutro. It's been about 48 hours since he's been on his new food. He was gassy the day we met him and she just laughed it off. How long, if ever, till this goes away????

Give him at least 6-8 weeks on the new food, though I'd expect to see SOME difference in a couple weeks.

I'd give the new food some time and see if that works. My EM Kryten has toxic level gas on every food I've tried him on and unfortunately that almost reaches double digits. What I've found is that if I give him a specific digestive supplement his gas goes away. I know that for him it is that supplement because they were sold out when I went to get it last time so I tried a different brand and he has still managed to chase me out of the room.

For the stinkies, I'd try probiotics first - and a supplement with Yucca Shidigera second. The yucca binds nitrogen for elimination, so often it's in the 'grass saver' pills (but some of those have other chemicals, too). You should also be able to find a human grade version at the vitamin store.
Yucca did wonders for both our dane/lab and bulldog mix, both of which could easily clear a room. :)

lol I've never tried a dog on Nutro that wasn't a gas factory. (tried both my boxers on it and we couldn't live with them when they were on Nutro- it was bad...ewwww)

It does take a couple weeks for the dogs digestive system to settle down with a new food. Also what are you giving him for treats/chews? That can also make a big difference.

You can also try giving him some yogurt, that sometimes helps.

Does Nutro make a lamb version? I switched Topaz from Chicken to Lamb only food (TOTW-Sierra Mountain) and the gas was non existent. I have since gone back to chicken for cost reasons, and the gas is back. But we have to put up with it. I swear it's the chicken.
